    Enfield .58 Cal. Replica

I was hoping you would chime in rebel727, you seem to have a lot of experience with the 2 band Enfield. The god of the Enfield is David Whenchell ( i spelled that wrong, sorry David). He should be along soon to add his experience. He shoots long range and won another big competition this year.

    Enfield .58 Cal. Replica

Yes it could change the point of aim, depending on how big of a load you use. The nice part of these Civil War guns is, they don't need heavy loads as you are describing. Here is how it works: The minie bullet has a hollow end with a "skirt" (a skirt is thin lead that forms around the base of...

    Enfield .58 Cal. Replica

Hey 58 cal., Your going to love your gun and it is great for deer hunting. I use the same gun, except mine is the cheaper Euroarms brand. You have the top of the line brand, people drool to get that gun! Here is what I have learned with mine and what I have read in great forums such as this...

    Accidental Discharges removing a cap

Many years ago, while shooting my 1860 Colt Army pistol, a cap wouldn't fire. I was prying it off with a small screwdriver and while prying it off, it must have made enough of a spark, cause not only did that round go off, but i had a chain fire also! A very good lesson on why to always point...

Ideas on how to keep a musket cap on?

No, It's a musket nipple for a 1858 Enfield. I had to get a new one (from Lodgewood) and it doesn't seem to be as big as the original I had. But, even with the original one, they would fall off. With my 1842 Springield, the caps fit very tight.

    58 caliber pistol?

Whoops, I forgot to mention, it needs to be percussion.

Ideas on how to keep a musket cap on?

Thanks for the info. I am currently using the caps doulos described. I dug in my muzzleloading storage box and found another type that has the us flag and reb flag on the cover (sorry can't remember the company)and will try them. If that doesn't work, I will get out the file and bring it down...

    58 caliber pistol?

Does one exist? Preferably in a kit? I have a bunch of round balls that don'tshoot well with the Enfield, I have to get rid of them somehow.

    Hunting Pistol?

If I had my dithers, I would carry my 1860 Colt Army in my left hand and my 1851 Colt Reb Navy in my right hand and any deer within range would see some muzzleloading pistol fire!! Anyhoo, Illinois reality doesn't allow for that type of John Wayne deer hunting.

Ideas on how to keep a musket cap on?

Hello, I enjoy using my 1858 Enfield for deer hunting. I only have one problem. My percussion caps fall off all the time. Is there a easy way to keep them on? I've tried pinching them, that doesn't work. I remember reading a similar post years ago and they used candle wax, but that would be...

    Hunting Pistol?

I would suggest a percussion 50 caliber Lymans. I have one and they are very accurate and deliver enough punch to kill a deer at 35 yards or less. Here in Illinois, we can only use them in our 3rd season (why not the first 2 seasons, I have no clue). I carried one for a backup last year for...

    Shooting Armi Sport Enfield

I forget the technical jargon right now, but your Enfield sights are designed this way: When shooting at 50 yards, put the front sight half way in the rear sight. When shooting 100 yards, put the whole front sight in the rear sight.

    my 1851 problem

A hunting buddy gave me the same gun a few years ago and I had the same problem. Hopefully you have a vise you can use. Wrap the gun in cloth put tightly in vise. Use a soft mallet and tap the end of the barrel toward the cylinder. (Sometimes the barrel moves away from the cylinder causing...

    Disgusted with Plains Pistol

I have a 50 cal. and the first 4 shots are very, very accurate. Once the barrel gets fouled, I have found the accuracy goes sour.

    1861 musket

If no one on the forum can help, I would recomend getting a hold of the folks at: www.Lodgewood.com. They know CW original/repro guns.
