    Just a quick thanks...

Have fun with the new gun. I second the idea of keeping the peep sight. Getting old sucks, poor sight sucks even more. The peep sight helped me put fun back into shooting. :v

    GPR dovetail and sight question

Due to failing eyesight (can't see up close), I put a Lyman No. 57 SML on my Traditions .50cal Hawkins. No problem with the mounting. Had to drill and tap one hole. The change was like night and day. I was able to see the sights and it put the fun back in shooting. The gun shoots great. If only...

Alternative practice balls...the question now is: Why Wait ??

.50 is what I have. I was checking locally for glass balls. Could not find anything that would fit .50. I would have to order them in from USA. I like the idea of being able to recover/reuse a rubber round. Makes it easier to shoot behind the house. No neighbors so it is safe.

    beeswax ?

As the new kid on the block I made up a batch of Moose Snot using the toilet bowl ring. It set up well and from what I have read on this site, looks ok. Hopefully I will shoot tomorrow if weather is good. Will let you know how it goes.

    beeswax ?

I found a mixture of bees wax and carnuba oil. Used for furnature wax. Could this be used in the Moose Snot recipe in stead of straight bees wax?

    GPR dovetail and sight question

Another rookie question, why do you sight at the 6:00 oclock position instead of the centre of the target?

    GPR dovetail and sight question

Thanks for the help. I will give it a shot with the original front sight. (no pun intended)I can always change the front sight later.

    GPR dovetail and sight question

Looking at the Lyman peep sight. If I go to that do I have to change the stock front sight? Should I buy the Lyman front sight that is matched to the peep sight? thanks, Al.

    GPR dovetail and sight question

I am in the same boat. I have a Traditions Hawken .50cal. The stock sights are thick and with my failing sight things are getting fuzzy. Any suggestions what type of sight may help this? Keep us informed how your new sights work out and how they were to instal.

    Hello from Canada eh?

Just joined. Got into Black Powder a few years ago. Now I am hooked. I have always been involved with firearms and hunting, but now have a new outlook on hunting. This is a great site and I look forward to gaining new knowledge into this side of shooting. Play safe. Al
