I usually only rub my wood projects down in vegetable oil a couple of times. Find it protects and brings the grain out with out making it shiny.

    First Noggin

I usually don't have problems getting blood on projects because I don't bleed for a couple seconds after cutting myself. I was told it was because of high clotting factors or something like that.

    First Noggin

Yeah I got a hook knife for Christmas and this was my first project with it and I sorta gouged a piece of my hand with it  . I've been debating to put a lanyard on it or not. If I do I might also make the bowl bigger since it only holds a little over 1/3 cup of liquid.

I have a cheap $20 cotton one that I've started to use for camping. Last year was the first time I used a hammock for it and the first time I fell asleep in under 10 minutes while camping. When you use them sometimes you have to sleep at an angle in them to sleep flat and have another layer...

    Home-made cordage anyone?

Tulip poplar is good but needs to be retted. I usually gather bark from saplings that got knocked over and have retted naturally. It does not take a lot of time to gather a ton of bark. If you get good at doing reverse wrap you can make rope while watching T.V. or having a conversation.
