SOLD TC Hawken Stock for Sale 15/16" for 45 or 50 cal barrel

It won't take a 1" barrel. You will need a Renegade stock. In experience the Renegade does not have the drop like the Hawken. Not sure how much difference but I notice it. Looks like a nice refinish job.

Difference in patterning between lead and bismuth/tin shot?

I used to load shot shells. I had good results by using tablet backs to make an "X" that I dropped into the shot cup before loading the shot. They turned my full choke Ithaca into an Improved modified for rabbits.

Barrel length and velocity of patched balls

My understanding has been that longer barrels allow burning of more powder. While I like the Lyman Deerstalkers, I have found d that there is a limit to what gets burned and how much is pushed out the muzzle. I have not tried running loads over a chrono but I do know that my impact change from...

    Hitting low on Frizzen

If you have a bench vice, take a round ball and flatten it on the anvil portion of the vice until you reach the shape and size you need to place under the flint.

    Green Mountain barrel?

Forget about the price... good luck finding one. If you have a line on one then you are way ahead of the game. I would like one in flintolock. I have one on a Renegade but the 32", big 1" . barrel is pretty heavy.

Leaving pellets in muzzleloader - how long?

I have one of the compressed air discharge tools. That way I never forget that there is a charge in the gun...

    Cutting large chunks of lead

I lay things like that across the pot and then melt the edges with a propane torch, allowing the melted lead to drip into the pot.

    Bullet Casting Question

Soft lead sometimes will fail to completely fill in the mold. I prefer 20-1. In my 10# Lee melter that means 1# of 50-50 bar solder and fille the pot with lead. That little bit of tin makes a difference.

    First Flintlock hog

    Can't beat a large bore.

Advice on a Fedex damage claim?

Have you contacted their Customer Service?

    Is this leading?

Try running a bunch of patches with polishing compound through the barrel. Likely they will come out black. Keep going with alternating patches of a good black powder bore cleaner. I really like BoreTech.

Green Mountain TC Renegade barrel swap

Look for a machine shop near you and have them remove a bit off of the rib where it makes contact with the stock. You can do it yourself with files and a Dremel tool but it won't look as nice.

    Lyman Great Plains rifle

If I recall correctly, the Great ains was the only Lyman rifled for a round ball. But there were some rifled for sabots.

    Finally did it.

80 grain of FFFg should be a good load for you. That barrel will burn up even heavier charges. Try to find both .490 and .495 round balls and then .015 and .020 thick patches. It is a pain to find the correct combination but often it will yield surprisng results of from bad to good.

    Finally shot my Colonial .54

With that long barrel you can burn a big charge.

Barrel length and velocity of patched balls

The fly in the ointment is toting that long barrel gun around in the woods. However the long barrel does lend itself to easier off-hand shooting.

    Flintlock Rifle Flash Hole Placement

Unless it is a problem don't worry about it. My Renegade has a low hole while my TC Hawken is higher.

    Paper patches?

Just like a cloth patch. He was shooting a smooth bore so that certainly could be a factor.

    Paper patches?

Several years ago I ran into a guy at the range who was playing with a smooth bore and using patches from heavy paper bags. Anyone tried this? Why?

    Pedersoli locks bad?

Two years ago I bought a new Lyman Deerstalker. The lock was terribly gritty. A Dremel tool fixed it. Ironically the best flintlock I have is an old TC Hawken. I am sure that it works so well simply due to usage over the years.
