Should cock and bridle wiggle against lock plate after press fit?

I was mistaken in the video. I don't actually believe there is a bridle. Only a tumbler.

Should cock and bridle wiggle against lock plate after press fit?

Howdy everyone! Putting my lock back together for the first time. I press fit the bridle>lock plate>cock back together in my vice. I went about as far as I can, and there's still a bit of give in it. It wiggles against the lock plate with a space. Forgive the terrible video, but I tried to...

    CLP Mil Spec?

Howdy! So, I usually use Hoppe's oil for lock internals, but my local store was out. I was gonna grab a bottle of Rem, because it looked the same as Hoppe's, but the dude helping me told me he uses nothing but CLP Mil Spec when he was in the army. So, I grabbed the can to try it out...

Dixie Gun Works Tennessee Mountain Rifle acquired

I found something very similar in a Traditions Deerhunter I recently purchased new off the shelf. Turns out rust prevention coating inside the barrel can come out looking like rust. Took forever to get out with wet/dry patches.

    Finally did it.

The end with the hole goes boom! No, but I love mine! Recommend sighting yours in. I bought mine used and it wasn't the greatest. Had to file down the front sites a bit, and tap the rear sight over a bit after some tests at 50yd sitting.

What should I use to polish and smooth tumbler and lock pieces?

Thank you! But I purchased some different (but basically the same lol) stones on Amazon! They took about 2 days to show up! I'm still working up the courage and waiting for the free time to try and take apart the lock! 😂

What should I use to polish and smooth tumbler and lock pieces?

So, I hate to ask this, but can anyone find a specific resource on taking apart a Traditions Deerhunter lock? I think as long as I'm thorough, take pictures, keep everything labeled, and annoy you boys on this forum if I get stuck then I should be okay. That being said, I'd still like a...

What should I use to polish and smooth tumbler and lock pieces?

I was told that by my mentor in my muzzloading group I shoot with. And if I mess up the lock, I'll just buy another one. It's a cheap Traditions Deerhunter. I'm seriously a bit confused why people keep treating this like I'm attempting to create nuclear fission in my garage...

What should I use to polish and smooth tumbler and lock pieces?

Thank you guys so much for all the helpful tips! I really appreciate it! 🙏 I've never done metal work before. Just douse everything in mineral oil before I go at it?

What should I use to polish and smooth tumbler and lock pieces?

I don't know anyone in Southern California that can do this. It's also just a cheap Traditions Deerhunter. I bought this gun exactly to learn how to do this stuff.

What should I use to polish and smooth tumbler and lock pieces?

Been told I need to "stone" my lock pieces, to remove any machine markings and smooth them out. Make everything work better. "Don't take off any metal, but get them smooth as a baby's bottom." Okay, so once I figure how to take the lock apart and put it back together, what's the best tool for...

Very pretty! I've got a Lyman and I love her! Great gun! Can't hit a damn thing with her, but the gun shoots straight.

    Dry-fire a flintlock?

Don't be like me and dry fire your first flint. Bent the hell out of the doghead clamp screw after a couple times. Had to order a new one.
