    Minnie Ball Stuck 1861 Springfield

Well, everybody, the ball is now out of the gun and in my hand. I had a buddy come over and we put near-boiling water down on top of the stuck ball again. I couldn't really get any water under it as the nipple hole was still clogged with leftover gunpowder. We tried the ball puller again but...

    Minnie Ball Stuck 1861 Springfield

So, even with the ball about halfway down the barrel, you were able to shoot it out with no issue?

    Minnie Ball Stuck 1861 Springfield

Okay, that may be the next step then. Will, it not deform the bullet anymore if I do that? Also, I only put a very small amount of water through the nipple hole, and I believe I got it all out.

    Minnie Ball Stuck 1861 Springfield

I guess I will run into town and find a grease gun! Edit: That's a lot of money... I'll see if somebody else has one.

I have a power washer but I don't think that's what you mean.

    Minnie Ball Stuck 1861 Springfield

Ball puller arrived today. So far, nothing. I thought I got it stuck for a minute but more pulling resulted in the ball puller with no ball attached to it. Im a little bit scared to keep trying with the puller. I don't want to get that stuck in there too.

    Minnie Ball Stuck 1861 Springfield

With the utmost respect, I have never done this before. I'm sure there was a time when you had never done it before too. I appreciate your help, but I do not have the supplies needed to do what you've suggested. I also don't want to hurt the gun by forcing the bullet further down, and I suspect...

    Minnie Ball Stuck 1861 Springfield

Thanks for the responses! So just to clarify: I loaded powder before putting in the minnie. There is only one ball in there and it is stuck halfway down the barrel. I have flooded the powder to kill the charge. I am using Goex FFG. I couldn't find any beeswax anywhere in my town, so I used...

    Minnie Ball Stuck 1861 Springfield

It's stuck stuck. I've tried ramming it as hard as possible, then using a rubber mallet on the ramrod. Nothing.

    Minnie Ball Stuck 1861 Springfield

I got a Minnie Ball stuck when loading my 1861 Springfield today. I suspect I did not have enough lube. Of course, I have a couple of questions; How can I get it out? Should I order a .58 ball puller from Track of the Wolf, or is there a better way? (I have no access to an air pressure device...

    1861 Springfield not igniting powder

Hey all, I ended up taking the nipple off, followed by the screw next to the nipple (on the nipple hole). I took a toothpick through that hole again and in the hole that led into the actual barrel. I didn't get much out - just a little bit of gunk on the very end of the toothpick. I guess that...

    1861 Springfield not igniting powder

Oh gotcha - yes, water came through the nipple when I put water down the barrel. Yes, the nipple was dry before and after I cleaned it.

    1861 Springfield not igniting powder

Yes, I can see smoke in and around the nipple channel when the cap goes off. The caps I am using are the Schuetzen Musket Caps found here: SCHUETZEN MUSKET CAPS 4-WING 1000/bx - Graf & Sons

    1861 Springfield not igniting powder

Hey all, I recently picked up a Pedersoli 1861 Springfield. Used but in great condition. While my ammunition for it has not come in yet, I ordered some Schuetzen Musket Caps and decided I would try them out. After using 3 caps to clear out any gunk that may have been in the nipple, I loaded up...
