    jug choked barrel

The description of this barrel at TOW says "for fine shot only". I have a shorter version of this barrel made for me at Colerain. It is not jug choked. The choke is a the smaller diameter bore at the muzzle. In my opinion trying to put round balls thru this barrel would be like shooting slugs...

    So Who REALLY Loves BP?

I like shooting ML, CF, and RF guns and own some of each. I do however use flinters during regular or CF seasons too. Whatever ever trips my trigger when I am on my way out the door for a hunt.

    Patterened some squirrel loads...

Yes, the results are very interesting. Please let us know what your further experimenting shows. I have never had such results from thick over shot wads, lubed or not, in cylinder chokes. In fact the thick wads ( lubed or not ) over shot dont do well in my jug choke either. The patterns you...

    Hunting Geese

I also have a turkey choke colerain in .62. I have taken Canada geese with my 11 ga flinter using #2 bismuth, also with BB steel. I think I will try some of the new ITX shot carried by Ballistics Inc in my Colerain barrel. I may even try to make a duplex load of #2 and BB. The geese I have...

Powder & Shot Load ratios out of smoothbore muzzleloaders...

I dont have any hard data to support it, but I have had similar experience shooting geese and turkeys. More shot works well for me in a 20ga and especially in an 11 ga jug choked gun.

    Chokes

I would jug choke the gun. It has worked for me. I am still shooting a flinter. It isnt a breechloader with a kicks choke by any means.

    Touch Hole Wear ?

I had an experience where one of my flintlocks needed a new stainless touch hole liner because the amount of gas blowing back out of the touch hole did reduce accuracy. I should have measured how much the touch hole enlarged before I installed the liner. However, the liner solved the problem.
