Hey all, Drilling the vent is the last thing on my list of things to do I just marked the end of the breech plug and it's possible relation to the liner on the outside of the barrel long ago. Hey Mo, I was wondering about that myself. Upon thinking about it, I think the line protrudes into the barrel and you just file off the excess flush with the inside of the barrel. The cone I believe is oversize so to speak. I could be and probably am totally wrong however. f- fosters

Well I measured again and got my barrel pinned to the under lugs finally. Had to do the toothpick trick. It doesn’t look too bad and I hope after I stain it no one will notice. We’ll see and if it really sticks out I’ll do an inlay to hide. It. Oh I replaced the underlugs with brass ones...- fosters

Hey Keith, It's a Rice barrel. My thought was just as you mentioned, filing both the tang and the wood at the rear of the tang to finish the shape and match the curve of the stock. To my greenhorn eye their seems to be quite alot of mass there on the tang. You think I can take it down...- fosters

Inlay is a great idea guys! Tb, Nice work! I wish I knew how to engrave even close to that. One thing I do know is that I have the artistic talent of a 1 year old. :) I've started working on an idea, will solve both problems maybe. 1 was my still tick loose underlug and 2 my missed holes...- fosters

Hey J.D. Nah, I was just coming in from one side to mark the underlug. Than I was going to pull the barrel drill the hole in the lug and continue. You think if I drill the hole in the underlugs just above the area where I nicked them with the drill bit the bit will find the hole in...- fosters

Hey Fred, Thankfully I just marked the underlugs so they are fine. It is the holes in the stock that are off. Racking my brain trying to paint my way out of this corner. As mentioned I think most people just glue in a toothpick and re-drill. I'd prefer to try and use the same holes in...- fosters

Unfortunately it's cherry. My fear is if I plug it and try and drill again I may miss again, then I would have two holes in the wrong place. What if I drilled the holes in the underlugs just above where I nicked them. Wouldn't the drill find the hole in the underlug? They are pretty...- fosters

I missed, Arrgh!
Well I missed my underlugs while drilling for my pins. I'm sure it was because I wasn't holding my drill level or my bit wandered. I grazed the bottom of 2 and hit one actually a little high. The high one shouldn't be a problem the two low ones make me depressed.:( Any ideas on a fix? fosters- fosters

Oh hey pd, if you are having trouble seeing the transfer of the inletting black you might try lipstick. Works great and probably no more messy than the black. Personally I tried to find a shade that matched the cherry of the stock. :) f- fosters

I'm pretty sure that it will close up when I drop the tail of the tang down a little more. It actually looks worse in the pict due to the shadow. I actually have a 10"x 2" piece of cherry that came with the component set. I think they included it just in case I wanted to make a wooden...- fosters

Nah J.D. I'm just slow. Mike, I knew I saved the saw dust and the piece I cut off to inlet the buttplate for something. I'm hoping when I rebend the tang so of it might go away. Also maybe when I stain and seal the stock? f- fosters
