Austin and Halleck: What do you think?

I'll keep it til they learn and then it will be sold. 2" ctc off hand is the best I can do - Now if your talkin off the bags it's better than that but the only time I use bags is to set the sights. It's a caplock. When the GPR arrived this is what was done. 1) Had to tapper the wedge plates so...

Austin and Halleck: What do you think?

I have both a A&H and GPR and the austin blows the lyman away!!! The Lock is strong and smooth as snot on a glass door knob - the Lyman is manure!! The trigger is light crisp and consistant - the lyman manure!! I don't know what everybody sees in the GPR - I consider it second rate. I'd buy a used...

    Most 'Authentic' Hawken

Dave what are your thoughts on the locks of the A&H vs. GPR. I too have both and think the A&H is a far piece ahead in quality compared to the GPR. I'd go the austin route. :m2c:

    Tip Curtis - Customer Service

This is a far cry from what the other post had wrong and could've been chalked up to unseen wood stresses. Even wood sellers say they are not held liable for that yet Tip went the xtra mile. I personally have not dealt with him yet but plan on steering my oldest to him for his first QUALITY...

    Got My Smoothie Today...Disappointment

No excuses for that, I'd get my cash back and run like hell!! One is to damn many. Anyone who said to give him a chance is nuts. One mistake like that should ruin a rep. The word professional mean anything to anyone. :imo:

    Help with first ML

I second the A&H!! I have both a GPR and Austin and the Austin is hands down a better rifle! Lock alone blows Lyman away. Better wood and looks. But it was pickier about it's loads. I paid 623 for it with a Hand select stock and it is purrrty!! The only fault is I wish they had it in a...

Proper size ball for a .40 Cal Flintlock

Track of the wolf but any supplier such as midway etc. will have them. They cast nice with shorter warm-up. And they are cheap so you can order more of them and try different sizes. They also make a .380 if you have some real thick patching.

Found out something new about my .32

Try some real powder and see what she'll do. Once I switched to real BP I never went back!! Better groups, easier ignition , cheaper and only slightly dirtier. :m2c:

your favorite style of rifle and do you own one?

Tenn moutain - I have a custom 40 and a TVM 40 on order. But became hooked on JP Beck and just had to have a 54 Beck built - will be done in early 06. Still need a Fusil and then I'll have to pick another. They are all special in their own way. Like my kids they are all different and yet I love...

Proper size ball for a .40 Cal Flintlock

My 40 is coned and I have been using a .395 - But I have a .390 mold also and will be trying them soon. .395 are extremely accurate and will use them for hunting but for practice I will use the .390 to maybe get a few more shots between swabbing. Rice bbl. and .017 ticking. Every rifle is a law...

    TVM Southern Rifle/Tennessee Rifle

Already have a custom Baxter Bean bulit by Packdog with the late ketland and a rice bbl. so this one is the one the kids get to learn on. Unless it shots to good then I'll just keep it and have to get them something else.. NEVER give your kids guns that shoot to good! You might get beat.. :hmm:

    TVM Southern Rifle/Tennessee Rifle

I'm waitin on a 40 Tenn. and Toni said that they usually put a small siler on the small bores. After talkin to them a couple o times I have no doubt I'll be happy with it. :imo:

    Drilling flash hole?

Yep!! It's miss prissy the Baxter Bean. I think I'll wait til my TVM comes this fall and replace the vent with a Chambers and experiment with that. As I said this is my first flinter and I'll have to wait til I can obtain more data to make a wise choice. It goes fast but I don't know how fast is...

    Drilling flash hole?

Shootin like a house a fire! Off a rest at 25 is one ragged hole. Haven't measured the flash hole yet but will before I drill. As far as taken a file to her, will be next time out I think - Hits 1" low and right on for windage now. No biggie but what did you use for glue on the leather and...

    Drilling flash hole?

On a white lightning vent When you dill it out do you worry or do anything about burrs?(inside) Mine goes boom 100% of the time so far - about 200 rounds now - pretty good I think for my first flinter. I think it fires pretty fast but am going to try to speed it up some. What size is you usin...
