value of a tc renegade .54

The bore looked good and that is the model with the old style sights and double set triggers. I have 3 of them, 2 .54s and a .50. Looks like you got a really good deal on it.

    Problems with T/C hawkens

Was it new or used when she bought it? If new, I'd shoot it a bunch between now and deer season to see if if smooths out. If it was used, there may be pits that the patch catches on. I'd try swabbing after every shot to see if that helps loading. Have you found any of the patches you shot out...

    Hawken Investarm Kit

I filed off the warnings and other markings on the barrel of a Cabelas Hawken that I have but never thought about the designs on the lock. Think I'll do that now. Have been planning to reshape the cheekpiece to more of a Tennessee style but haven't gotten around to it.

Interesting grease hole on that gun, it looks egg shaped.

    Gun Barrel Turned From Axle

There was a guy who built this one out of an axle for over-the-log matches: http://www.hootalrifleshop.org/Farmall_Rifle.JPG

    GM drop-in barrel safety question

Were the underlug holes any deeper than the front sight holes? I have a GM drop in .58 and have never had any problems at all out of it after initial fitting it to the stock. I suppose you could have the "questionable" area of the barrel cut off and the undrilled portion rebreeched with an...

I have that same cookbook, how many recipes out of if have you made?

    54cal shorty

I don't care at all for scopes on traditional muzzleloaders, but I'll make an exception in your case, I like the looks of that.

    54cal shorty

I had one of the Cabelas Hawken .50 carbines for a while. Louder, a bit more muzzle jump, and not quite as accurate as the fullsize Cabelas Hawken I have. It was a neat little gun but I sold it and bought a fullsize Cabelas Hawken flintlock .54.

    Hybrid sights?

I never had a lot of luck accuracy wise with the v rear sights that are on Hawkens and New Englanders. I sold off the ones I had and found older model Renegades that had the square notch rear and blade front sights. They work a whole lot better for me. I would look for a blade front sight to...

.40 cal GM barrel on TC Hawken

I've used Hornady .395s more than anything else in mine. I have the 38" version.

No More Green Mtn Barrels ?

I haven't received it yet, but I have a barrel ordered from Charlie Burton. Everything I've heard about his work has been positive: http://fcibarrels.tripod.com/

    Rebreeching a Renegade...

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder as to whether or not the barrel would be "ruined". To me modern scopes on traditional style rifles "ruins" them. Repurposing a barrel, that I'm not going to use, for another project I'm interested in seems like a good thing to me. I've never had a...

    Rebreeching a Renegade...

I bought an old style T/C Renegade .50 this morning at a gunshow for $80. The barrel had 6 holes drilled in it for scope mounts, everything else was in excellent shape. I don't buy traditional muzzleloaders that have been drilled for scopes but I made an exception in this case because of how new...

    Kirkland's Guns

Took advantage of the day off and finally got to shoot it today. I'm quite pleased with the accuracy of it. The rear sight is a big ol' V notch that I'm most likely going to replace with something more suitable for target shooting. It definitely needs a new nipple and maybe a flash guard, but...
