2009 Alvin C. York Memorial Shoot...

If I don't have the new one finished, I'll be shooting my old one. I saw on another site that Charlie Bailey passed away this weekend, he finished 8th last year.

MYTH BUSTING: recoil associated with cresent shaped butt plates

I was thinking the exact same thing. I shoot in over-the-log matches and my T/C and Cabela's Hawkens are the last guns I would shoot in that type of match. A Renegade or New Englander style buttplate is way easier on your shoulder.

    My first big 58'er

The only bad thing I've found about them since buying a .58 is that it makes you want to keep going bigger...or is that really a bad thing.

    DIY barrel inletting...

Zonie, it's funny that you showed the pistol you built. One of the practice blanks that I have is too short for the things that I have intentions of doing so I thought why not make a rifle stock for my Lyman Plains pistol. karwelis, I will definitely be much less destructive with a mallet and...

    DIY barrel inletting...

For those of you who do their own barrel inletting what do you use? I've read of people using everything from mallets and chisels, Skil saws, and routers.

    Cabelas 54 hawken percussion?

I've got both the Cabela's and T/C Hawkens. The T/C has nicer wood but the Cabela's shoots better...a lot better.

    Over Log Shoot

If you're familiar with the Foxfire books, volume 5 has a section on over the log shoots. There are several old pictures of shooters and their rifles.

Advantage of Moving to Musket Caps & How?

I have a T/C New Englander that #11 caps were terribly inconsistent in setting off the charge. When it did go off there was almost always a slight delay. I put a musket nipple on it and use RWS musket caps. It works like a charm now. My T/C Hawken, Renegade, and my Cabela's Hawken all work fine...

    trimming patches at the muzzle

The people that I have seen who cut at the muzzle either have a small spray bottle that they spray the strip of patch material with or they lick the patch a couple of times before centering it over the bore.

    Alvin C. York Memorial Shoot

One of the Grim boys was shooting on one side of me and the girl was shooting on the other side. Last year she shot over 25" and this year, she shot half that. Both of them were shooting quite a bit better than I was.

    Alvin C. York Memorial Shoot

He and his two grandsons were shooting down at the same spot I was. I'm not sure where he finished at. I think he shot a little better than his grandsons based on the way they were comparing targets though. Both of his grandsons finished higher than he did last year.

    Alvin C. York Memorial Shoot

For the 4th time Paul "Spidermatic" Griffith won the York Shoot. He shot a match record string of 3.560. Same as last year, he gave what would have been one of his prizes an Ed Rayl barrel to the shooter who finished 150th. What a great shot and great guy Paul Griffith is. :applause: I...

I'll be there. I'm hoping for some dry and windless weather the next couple of weeks so I can get some much needed practice.
