Well I switched gears, and inlayed my lock. That came out great! Whew. Nice to have a win after the thimble episode, wich is still there. Anyway, time to set that barrel in. I had my breech plug installed by the stock maker. Now I cant get the thing out!. Ive got it clamped in my vice, using...

Well my first inlay has gone haywire

the sliver of wood idea seems like its something im capable of. I can match up the grains okay with what I got. How should I inlay this? Im thing 3 seperate slivers since the forestock is rounded already. Also bevel the slivers? I dont have alot of scrap to experiment with.

Well my first inlay has gone haywire

Thanks for your responses guys. I do have a chunk of wood from this stock that I can use for repairing. Pecatonica was nice enough to include the scrap from my stock. Both the sawdust and inlet ideas sound like reasonable methods. I have also thought about maybe making my own rear pipe. A...

Well my first inlay has gone haywire

So, I figured Id try inletting that rear entry thimble first, while I wait for my mainspring vice to get here. Somewhere along the way I got it off center as well as moved back to the but to much, SO to get it straight again means there will be gaps of the old inlay exposed. I tried peening...

what do you do with the rear sight?

So what are you supposed to do with the rear sight. I got a semi buckhorn but the whole thing is pretty much solid exept for that tiny v in the center. Are you supposed to file these to suit your taste or is the way it came the way your supposed to use it? If any of you got some pics to share...

    ML hunter numbers

I think numbers have increased because of the increased population of people who hunt and the special muzzleloader seasons. If every state adopted traditional muzzleloading hunts the numbers probably wouldnt be as high but there are lots of people that would still do it. I post alot over at...

    cleaning german silver parts

Well, I have to wait on my mainspring vice to get here. Figured I could at least start by prepping the buttplate and trigger guard. How do I clean these castings up? They are german silver. Thanks!

Step One for a pre carvedstock build

Okay so first off I need to inlet the lock right? So I have to dissasemble the lock just like on any other build right? Question one. What is the best method for depressing the mainspring? Question two. It looks as if my sear is going to be too long and I will need to trim it. Is that common...

T/C PA flintlock smoothbore coming my way!

Just an FYI, Hornady no longer makes a .520 ball. I see that TOTW sells handcast in .520 though. What flints should I get for this gun? Im gonna make an order for some balls, wads, cards might as well throw in some flints. Also paul I noticed in your article you said to wrap flints in lead...
