T/C PA flintlock smoothbore coming my way!

Thats a pretty rifle roundball. What is it? So thats interesting about the .520 balls and .018 patch. would think that is too small. Now should I assume thats where I should start with my barrel? Mine is a green mountain barrel too.

T/C PA flintlock smoothbore coming my way!

SO what do I use for cards and wads? 28 guage? Seems that those would be a tad big. Maybe I should have looked into the availability of .54 shotgun stuff. But I know you guys will come up with the answer!

T/C PA flintlock smoothbore coming my way!

Well While I take my time putting my late lancaster rifle together I need a toy to play with in the meantime. As luck would have it I have located a T/C Pa hunter flintlock in 54 smoothbore. This will be primarily a rabbit gun for the winter, but I look forward to testing RB too.

    Finally got a kit ordered!

pecatonica will drill you a 5/16 ramrod hole. I called them back about it after my order and verified that the correct hole will be made. Kmeyer, I really like that silver trim you have on the rifle, where did you get that? Did it come from Pecatonica?

    Breech plug fitting?

Thanks! Alot of that makes sense now, Except for this... "Inlet the barrel, without the breechplug in it, into the stock, completely, and then mark out the position of your lockplate, before determining where and how long the threaded portion of the plug needs to be. " What does it matter where...

    Breech plug fitting?

So Im having a hard time understanding breech plug fitting. What do you remove material from to make the plug line up with the flats? Do you file the breech end of the barrel, or do you measure depth of threads and hack off threads on plug pretty close then file away?

    Flintlock hunting rocks!

Great Story! Nice Looking Deer and Rifle too. What were the other guys in camp using? Did you convert them over to flintlocks? Im pretty much at the begining of the path that you took a couple of years ago, and am looking forward to the same results.

    Finally got a kit ordered!

Well Here is one thing that is bothering me, Will having the large siler flintlock ruin the lines or look of the rifle? Seems that Ive read that if you are building small caliber rifles to stick with small locks. But looking at TOTW and Pecatonica all their stocks are inletted for the large...

    Finally got a kit ordered!

Well after much much deliberation, I ordered a late lancaster kit from Pecatonica supply. I ordered it with a 38" swamped .32 cal Green mountain barrel. I chose grade 3 maple. I dont really have much else to say or ask, just excited to talk about it. I have read my art of the pennsylvania...

    bore is extremeley tight.

Ill polish that crown. Cause once everything is started they go right down that barrel with no fuss. Especially the Ball. I measured that conical again. .587 at the top, on the bottom its .577 Im using Hornady Great Plains.

    bore is extremeley tight.

Well I just measured the bore, patches and the conicals. The conicals are .587 and the patches are .015. The bore seems to be right on at .580 Ill just have to find some right size patches. And maybe some better lube for the conicals.

    Twist rates

Well I want a barrel, .54 or .58 caliber, that is a 1:48 twist or some other twist that is a good compromise between roundballs and conicals. Id like to shoot both. Seems green mountain doesnt make a faster twist barrels in either one of these calibers. What are my options here? Settle for the...

    bore is extremeley tight.

Having a hard time loading my T/C Big bore. SO far I have used the .570 round ball, with a .010 patch, and hornady great plains conicals. Both projectiles are a real bear to get in. Im swabbing between shots, everything is lubed up. I get pretty good accuracy with the round ball. The conical...

What is the status of Thompson Center?

I called T/C a month or so ago to see what availability they had for big boar parts. Then I turned the conversation to when are they gonna come out with a bigger variety of traditional guns. The answer was "not anytime soon, the demand is not there" Maybe demand would be there if they would...
