Lyman GP 1-32" .50 roundballs OK

Those look fine! I'd be happy with that for plinking and if it was a heavier load it would be fine for deer, and bear. Don't know if a heavier powder charge will work with that tight a twist or not but worth a try. FRJ

    Lyman Barrel Problem

I've never had anything but great service from Lyman!! Their guns shoot really good and many many matches have been won with them. They also take game regularly. I just got a Lyman R/B mold and it throw perfect round balls. FRJ

    strike anywhere matches.

The Penley's work great!!!The Diamond's are not worth the powder to blow them to hell. They wear out the striker on the box and your left with half a box of unusable matches because they won't strike on anything.Probably the government trying to ban them and being very successful. Just like...

    Beautiful hawkin/plains custom rifle

I really doubt that tight patch is causing recoil. More likely is its a big bore. The tighter the patch the better the seal and the less the powder fouling. It is surely one fine looking and shooting rifle!!! FRJ

    How to tighten loose wedge?

I prefer to slightly bend the wedge rather than the staple as I am always afraid that I may have to bend it back a little and am afraid of pulling the staple loose. Just a tiny bit goes a long ways. FRJ

    Lyman GPR

That's a sledgehammer load and will kill a deer with energy left over!!! Dont have 2 deer standing side by side, you may kill both of them. FRJ

Got my new GPR barrel shooting

I don't know where you guys are getting your info and quite frankly I don't give a damn. I can defend myself against ANY gunfire aimed in my direction and I dont have to hide or run from anyone or anything. Maybe in your cowardly minds its a good thing to run like a little girl but in my United...

Got my new GPR barrel shooting

It's called self defense not retaliation. I'm not going to change what I do just because of some irresponsible punks. FRJ

Got my new GPR barrel shooting

I've been working up a load for my new 54cal GPR barrel. I've settled on 75gr 2F Goex under a .535 ball patched with .018" pillow ticking.CCI standard #11 primers light the whole thing off. It's touching holes at 80yards. I went to my usual place in the woods and there were people there already...

    Anyone Use KIK Powder

I recently did some research on this subject because my supplier was also out of Goex. What I found was that KIK is actually cleaner than Goex or Swiss but has more fliers than either one of them. I don't think you will have any problems with it and it should clean better than the others BUT...

any truth to breaking in a barrel ??

I didn;t read this whole thing, I kinda stopped when you said you were using bed sheet for patches. You need to use something quite a lot thicker than bed sheet for patches!!!!!! Quite a few of us use pillow ticking that is 100% cotton and aprox .018" thick. Do not use anything with any...

    Davis lock experience

Hi Rifleman, I have had several dealings with Tim and will guarantee you that he is a straight up gentleman that will bend over backward to help you all he can.He has dug me out of holes of my own digging on several occasions. When I first started dealing with him I had some of the same issues...

Range report on mixed and straight 2F powder

I recently wrote about mixing up some 2f and 3f powder. I shot it and accuracy was just fine. So today I tried a comparison between it (about a 50/50 mix of 2f and 3f)and straight 2f. I was shooting at 40 yards, the lube was WSW fluid and the prime was Goex 4F. Pillow ticking patch and .445...

What are ya'll using for patch lube?

I tried a bunch of different stuff for hunting the worst was crisco!!!!!! I couldn't get a ball down after 3 shots and cleaning was a real pain. Ended up with (and I don't like these people) TOW's mink oil. Works fine, no rust problems and I left my rifle loaded for over a month with no...

Wedges Keys from right to left only?

Left to right or right to left on most rifles won't make any difference. My GPR instructions say to install from R to L but in actuality there is no difference. It also says there are 2 different wedges a front and rear but either one works in either position. Go Figure. FRJ

    Lyman quality control issues

Many years ago I had a small mom and pop gunstore and on 2 different occasions I recieved rifles that had stocks broken exactly as you describe. I seriously doubt that they were shipped that way and I doubt that your was.I think that with all the rough handling that boxes get in shipping they...

    mixed 3f & 2f

OK I just got back from the range and was shooting the powder mixed with 2 and 3f powder. Its a 45 cal flintlock and I was shooting 60 and then 50 gr of the mixed powder. It worked great with 60gr and 4f priming and then I went to 50gr and it still worked great and was very accurate. This is...
