    Who uses their patchboxes?

I might be able to put some pipe tobacco in my patchbox, but then I would need something to smoke out of and there is definitely no way I am getting one of my pipes in there. :haha: Maybe if I brought a pipe hawk, had the tobacco in the patchbox along with some char-cloth, use the flintlock to...

    Who uses their patchboxes?

Thanks guys. Seems like a fair bit of you guys don't really use them either. All I have right now is a Hawken style rifle and the patchbox is virtually useless because of how small it is. Can't even put a jag in there. Now if it was one of those larger ones that might be a different story.

    Who uses their patchboxes?

Like the title says, who actually uses their patchboxes? I don't usually because I already have my shooting supplies in a bag, so there is really no need to store pathes in the patchbox. How bout you guys? Greebe

    Next rifle--.32,36,40???

Yeah that is why I am thinking the .36 would be a sweet little rifle.

    Chambers Flintlock Kits?

Thanks guys for the responses. I am not worried about having the aptitude to complete the operations, but I am not sure if someone, like myself who does not have much experience with flintlocks, would be able to get it tuned right. I am pretty detail oriented, some call me anal, and can figure...

How long is too long for smallbore?

Tom, you keep posting some beautiful rifles. Thanks for sharing.

    Chambers Flintlock Kits?

Thanks guys for the responses, however I think I might not have been clear with what I was asking. I am actually looking at one of the actual lock kits like this: Thanks, Greebe

    Chambers Flintlock Kits?

Has anyone put together one of the Chambers Flintlock kits? I am considering going that route to save some money and because I enjoy building things. I am a machinist so have the equipment and know how. Thanks, Greebe

How long is too long for smallbore?

I do not know about the barrel length, but it is not difficult to cut the barrel back, face it off, and re-crown on a lathe. I can do that for you if you decide that is something you want to do.

    Full Stock Hawken?

Very nice looking conversion. I am guessing that the stock you have is the Fancy Maple version? What sights did you put on it? Thanks for sharing your rifle with me.

    Source for period fabric

Check out Jas Townsend & Son. Cool privately owned company that does nothing but make and sell 18th century items. Fabric: http://jas-townsend.com/index.php?cPath=29&osCsid=d9ce87ce2c260e001c3e65ed9c844cbe

    Full Stock Hawken?

BTW way do really nice work and it was fun to look through all the process in your photo album. To bad we are on opposite sides of the country I would love to be able to sit down with you and learn about stock making.

    Full Stock Hawken?

Thanks again Tom I like the way those look. I just finished switching the percusion lock and .50 cal barrel on my rifle to a flintlock and .54 cal barrel. Been working on it and enjoying shooting it. Still like the looks of the full stocked Hawkens rifles. Any chance you would be able to...

    Front Sight Adjustment

Haha, must have been just kidding with the OP as 21/900*4 is not .116 but .093333

    Front Sight Adjustment

Is this real math or were you just Joshing the OP? I have never seen math like that to figure out sighting in a rifle. Pretty cool if it is real.

    Left Flint Right?

For the life of me I still cant tell the difference between a left and right hand flint. They all look the same to me. Like this picture, are the left or right handed flints? Hehe :blah:

    Next rifle--.32,36,40???

That is a nice looking rifle. Perhaps if you have that .36 sitting around gathering dust you might want to help out a poor smuck like me and make me a deal on it. Hehe. :haha:

    Next rifle--.32,36,40???

& hanshi-- I am thinking that the .36 might be the right caliber for me. Hehe, tomorrow I will probably have changed my mind to .40 again.

First time shooting my flintlock-- Is it too Slow?

Yep the lock geometry does seem a little wonky. I found a cock on Numrich for $14, so I might buy another to try messing with to get things to work better. Who knows maybe the cock on this lock is just goofy for some reason and the replacement will be better without any need to modify.

First time shooting my flintlock-- Is it too Slow?

Thanks. Yeah this lock sets off the pan every time if the flint is even marginally sharp. However the flint seems to get battered by the way it is hitting the frizzen. Seems like it is hitting too straight on and not enough at a proper arc. I have played around with it quite a bit but I don't...
