    ruger old army parts

I bought several guns in the early 70's and one was a ruger old army. Don't remember exactly the year but I only had it about a year before it was stolen in a breakin at my home. I did not shoot it a lot then , maybe I was on the second pound of powder. A few years ago I was thinking of...

SMOKE maximisation - how can I make more of it.....

How about some coffee creamer on top of the powder? I got some to try but have not tried it yet. The word is it makes a large flame when shot. Then there is sulfur, I believe that is what the smoke in BP comes from. In any case I would be careful and just try a little at a time, messing with...

    CVA Philadelphia Derringer

I would be happy to find a derringer lock. Just happen to have a piece of .50 barrel long enough to make 2 of them.

    flintlock pistol - fire start

50 years ago I put together a 16 ga muzzle loading pistol. I used to shoot rats along the mississippi with it. I used to use toilet paper for wadding. When ever I shot over dry grass I had a fire to put out! A week ago things haven't changed that much, I had a fire to put out when I used...

Stewmac Guitar Repair Vise vs Versitile Vise

looks to be made by same vendor. but...specs are slightly different. Both open to 6", carving vice does not give weight or if with bearings. If the weight was the same I would say toss up.

Does anyone actually shoot thier 1st or 2nd Gen Colt 1860 Armys?

I don't know if I will ever have enough spare change to get a real colt but if I do, it will be to shoot. Not shooting it would be like keeping a stack of $50 bills to look at and not use. John

Does anyone actually shoot thier 1st or 2nd Gen Colt 1860 Armys?

Look at what the revolvers we don't talk about here cost. People buy them, some cost more than a colt and they buy them to shoot.

What is the "popular" fowler right now?

I am into the construction of a 16ga 26" french fusil. I just installed the wedges into the barrel/stock tonight. Got a long way to go on it. Using a numrich unchambered barrel with 7/8 14 threads and breech plug. Those barrels ended up a bit larger than a regular 16ga so being sold...

    .36 caliber repro single shot?

I just happened to have some 6061 al. so I used that for furniture since I was only making a shooter for ME. john I used vinegar and steel wool for stain and topped it with jacobean. For a cheap hunk of wood I am satisfied. And will eventually brown the steel.

    .36 caliber repro single shot?

Last winter my project was a .36 flint pistol. An ebay lock, $15 tow 1/2 stock, a numeric arms $10 barrel, tow breech plug, and I made all the rest in my shop. Came out nice, I turned off 1/2 the oct. barrel to a tapered round with a canon muzzle. I will have to get it on a scale one day but it...

    First Black Powder Handgun Suggestions

As far as getting black powder I think a lot of stores carry it but none have it out front. I have to ask for it at a bass pro store. They keep it in the back in a safe. And is just a little less than $25 pound.

    screw slots

Thanks guys, I have the jewelers saw comming. I don't know if I can get 8/32 carriage bolts locally but if I can, I know I will have some nice looking screws for my flint lock. I set it aside for way too long. John

    1st flint pistol

This is my first flint build, just about from scratch. The trigger guard and ram rod are 6061 aluminum because it was laying around. .36 cal barrel blank from numeric. $15 stock blank from tow. The only premade part was a ebay lock. I do need to finish the linseed oil and some bluing. Has been...

New Project - Hell on Wheels Griswold

It really bends my crank when I watch just about any western/cowboy film or series. Not too long ago one of them had a fellow quoting a newspaper in which "LINCOLN" had just said this or that...every one of them had a gun belt with cartridge loops, I didn't wait to see what was in the holster...
