Need tips on making new ramrod

Trying to pull a ball is exactly why I'm looking for a new ramrod. The twisting action, to screw into the ball, caused my ramrod to split . Not enough to break it completely, but I won't be using it again. I finally shot it out by putting powder in through the nipple, and finished my...

    Camp Cooking-looking for ideas

Another easy breakfast. Brown hamburger, or sausage until done, set aside. While you are doing this fry up some potatoes/onions. Salt and peper to taste, mix in the meat and on top of all of this add as many eggs as needed(about three per person) now finish cooking just as you would scrambled...

    Pistol Project slowly coming along

Looks good from this angle. That wood really looks like it's going to pop when you have it finished. Have you decided on a finish for it yet? I've got to get a pistol to go with my Austin @ Halleck Mt. Rifle, so's I have a matched set! :winking: If I'm not mistaken, there is some kind of rule...

    Short Start

I also made my own out of the crown of an elk antler. It's tapered and long enough that I don't have to worry about smashing the $%&%^ out of my fingers or the web of my hand. For the rod itself I carved out a piece of oak 2X2 until it was the right diameter and length. :) Larry

    Full stock/barrel coating ?

I had a hunting partner once that did alot of hunting on the Ore. coast. On his 30-06 he used clear silicone to seal that area. He left the bead and it looked like hell, however the idea has merit and a guy could do a much cleaner job then he did. He didn't care, because this was the ultimate...

    Annealing German Silver ?????

Doc, You are correct, with iron or steel it is just the reverse. I make knives and that is exactly what I do when I make bolsters and such...Red hot and cold water. A mistake some people make is thinking that German Silver and Brass are about the same, Brass is much softer than German Silver so...

    Lyman Trade Rifle Assembly

It also proves that your gun wasn't test fired at the factory. I'm not sure that Lyman claims to do this, but, many companies do and I've often wondered about the truth of these claims. Larry

    Percussion Ignition Problem

You can try the no.11 Magnum caps, same size but a bit more umph to 'em. You can also try different custom nipples from Uncle Mikes and T/C, they have names like Sure Fire, Spit Fire ect. You may also discover that real black like Goex ignites easier than any of the subs. Larry

    Traditions Kentucky Kit

There is also the chance that it is Birch, very white wood, usually straight grained but can have good figure. Takes a stain, alcohol base works best for me. My brother refinished a stock on his mod. 99 Savage, with just plain clear finish tung oil or some such, it gave off a slight green cast...

Need suggestions for covering up a mistake

Another option could be to fill the area with a wedge of deer antler then sand down flush with the rest of the area after you epoxy glue it into place. Then you just finish it off like the rest of the stock. Larry

I know it's not a sidelock of any kind, but you might take a look at T.C. Scout. Looks like a 30-30 Win. without the lever. Larry
