    Proof or test load

:agree: what redfeather said. Any gun with damascus barrel(s) that you are considering shooting should be checked out by a good gunsmith first (IMO). Many times, the best decision is to either not fire it at all, or (per redfeather's suggestion) reline the barrels. :results:

Who else has "given up" trekking/re-enacting. Why?

Well - FWIW - anytime I have to even remotely think that I would have to carry documentation (are you kidding me?) for anything I'm wearing or carrying - that's the day I know I have run out of truly meaningful things to do. Smoked - You say From what I've seen, saying that is like...

    Hang-fire question

I have had no experience with the Lyman, but I have had occasional hangfires (usually just a "kaboom" (as opposed to a "boom"). I switched from the stock nipple to a "hot shot" type with a larger hole and I never had the problem again. The standard nipple on my gun was verrrry small. IM...

    Set Trigger on T/C hawken

I think that blue stuff to keep screws from backing out is called Loc-it. I have had a tube for many years. It doesn't dry up. Buy one - it's all you'll ever need.

    muzzeloading hunting trip

My first BP deer was taken on the opening day of ML season a number of years ago. I had set up against (kind of backed into) a spruce tree about 40 yards away from a nice trail I had found coming out of a pine plantation. Just as it was breaking light, a doe, then another came out of the...
