    Flash liner ??'s

I've ran into this problem with a white lighting liner. You'll need to remove the barrel from the stock. Take out the breech plug. Now install the liner, but don't cut it flush. You can either carefully file away the excess material protrudeing into the bore with a round file or mark the excess...

Thanks for the pictures! Thats my fusil-de-chasse on the photo of the judges table (Its the one under the left side of the please do not touch sign). Dixon's is always a great time, I always learn and see something new. This year will always be extra special to me as my fusil took the blue...

    Shoots near Danville, PA?

I got out my Federation Book, the club near Danville is the Susquehanna Sportman Association. Their next shoot is August 23. There is a little map in the book from RT 54 at the blinking light turn on to 624 E, then on to Columbia Hill Rd, Then on to Cherokee Rd, Then on to Sportsmen's Rd. I sure...

    Shoots near Danville, PA?

Bob, Yes there is a monthly shoot near Danville. Held by the Danville Sportsman Club I think, I don't have my Federation Book with me, but I will get you some infromation. The best way to find black powder shoots in Pennsyvanina is to join the PA Federation of Blackpowder Shooters, for your...

    It arrived............now what (breechplug quest.)

Don't know about Traditions, but some Pedersoli's breech plugs are ruined when removed. Don't know what thread profile they are using, but what ever it is once they are removed they are shot. Almost all american made barrels use national standard threads. Standard breech plug thread sizes...

    Going to take the plunge

You've made a good start in getting and reading some books, and by completeing your first project I'll start with you question on the breech plug, Yes, a newbie can breech a barrel. If you choose to do it, go slow, metal is easy to take off, hard to put back on. I breech my first barrel, took...

    Dixon's gunmakers' fair

You won't regret the trip to Dixion's. Here is what I can tell you hotels and motels, there is a Microtel in Hamburg,PA next to Cabela's (10 minutes from Dixion's). There may be some smaller ones around Kutztown,PA. There is a Holiday Inn and other chain hotels in Foglesville, PA (20 minutes...

This type of finish is usually called "french gray". Just read the listed thread, its a smiple process. I used a simular process on my fusil de chasse.

    Cochran Lock

I believe (but not 100% sure) that Cochran is out of business. I know of one shooter who uses a Cochran on his flinter, he has said in the past that finding parts is a problem.

    More browning help

What you need is a "damp box" As its much esaier to make a small area humid then a large one. Truthfully a cardboard box will work or you can make a wooden box. For a cardboard one find a box slighly longer than your barrel (its okay if it has to go in diagonally). Get some dowel rods. Push the...

    Softer, easier way ????

I agree you can solder them on! I just soldered on the lugs on my fusil barrel with no problem. The thing to remember you are heating the item to be soldered (the lug) not the solder or the barrel. Clamp the lug to the barrel, heat the lug. Keep trying the solder on the joint till it flows...

    Browning in different colors?

If you want to even up a browned barrel I would try to use Laurel Mountian Forges Browning Solution. Its about the best on the market, easy to use and give consitant results, the other things mentioned will work, but like I said I'd play on some scrap steel before I used them on a barrel. or try...

    Venting Precussion Rifle Drum

Yes, venting the drum will lessen the breech pressure, just like a flint lock has less pressure due to the vent hole. You can also drill the durm so it will shoot towards the muzzle. Vented percussion rifles must be rare in my area as I've never seen one yet.

    Browning in different colors?

Well lets see, first off the easy one the difference between blueing and browning. Browning is a process of "controled rusting" Anything that will rust steel can be used to brown a barrel to some degree, it depends on the barrel material and the solution you use. Take some steel scraps and play...

    Browning in different colors?

I never heard of changing LMF browning solution to get diffrent color. I'd advise against experimenting as you could have a nasty and potentionally dangerous chemical reaction. One thing that affects browning is the metal to be browned, depending on the make up of the steel you may get a...

    breech plug wrench

I've been using a adjustable wrench, but I hate the marks it leaves. I've been thinking about making one.

    CVA Squirrel Rifle

Its not that you can't change it, its more a matter of fit. The most important thing to consider is will changing the butt plate shorten the trigger pull too much. A tenn style plate with a hard curve could take an inch or more off the trigger pull. If you feel you can shorten her up this much...

    Gettysburg, PA area

I agree a trip to Dixon's is always worth the ride, just wanted to give a more realistic travel time, especially if they are still working on I-78 between 61 and Kutztown.

    Gettysburg, PA area

Don't want to rain on your parade if you have your heart set on going to Dixon's, but your looking at more like a two hour plus drive from Gettysburg to Kuntztown.
