how long does a pound of 4f last

There is a very simple relationship -- A pound of powder is 7000 grains (by definition), so if your charge is 70 grains, you get 100 shots. Now if your wife (sexist assumption) is involved, your 70 grains of powder is the equivalent of nearly 23 carets (200 milligrams) of stones. Now I would go...

    ahhh! Price of ROUNDBALLS!

Roy, I just called Eddie to confirm that he was still in the business (he was) and he confirmed the prices with me. BTW 1000 0.490's weighs 26 pounds (including packaging) on my bathroom scales. Metal prices have been going through the roof because our Chinese trade partners have been buying...

    Where Is Rootnuke's site?

I wanted to go back to rootnuke's page, but it was 404. I was able to use the way-back machine to look at a cache, but the images were not cached. Sigh. An inspiring builder -- I hope that he is well and still has flint in his blood. BBurg

    Inletting on discolored stock

I have a Lyman GPR with a POS/Dangerous lock. I got a L&R replacement lock and want to start inletting the lock, but the lock mortise on the stock has been stained by powder residue -- is there anything that I can use (quick/on a budget) to replace lamp soot to mark the inletting areas? Thanks...

    Hornady roundballs

Dneper -- those aren't the cost in Euros are they? In bulk, I can get 100 for $7.3 including shipping, but I imagine that the EU treats it as a hazardous material and there are surcharges. Duh, Sweden isn't EU, is it. Never mind BBurg

    Ignition problem!

I concur with Fisher King. I put a White Lightning in my Lyamn GPR and I can certainly see a difference. In addition to the tap kit, you will also need a countersink bit for the shoulder on the liner, hacksaw, and metal files. BBurg

    White Lightning in GPR

I installed the White Lightnin(g) liner last week and all that I can say is WOW. I can definitely see a marked improvement in my ignition success. I have a replacement lock and am waiting on my chisels to inlet and put in. It will come none to soon as I have been having EXTREME problems with...

    Gun rack dimensions

Hello, I am having a blacksmith friend make me a wrought iron gun rack (the hooks for one). What should be a proper width for the hooks? Lyman GPR if it matters. BBurg

    White Lightning in GPR

Thanks, Fisher King. BTW that was one of the first video tapes that I bought. I am a big Terry Gilliam fan -- after nearly 20+ years I am still trying to figure out Brazil.

    White Lightning in GPR

I have taken the plunge and gotten a 5/16-24 white lightning vent liner. I was able to drill out the M6 threads, and tap for the vent liner, but I have one quick question -- do I need to countersink for the flare on the WL vent liner? Thanks in advance -- BBurg For those interested, I got the...

    Leather softening

Hello, I have some rather thick leather that I got on ebay. It's about 2 mm thick and I have it in folded bundles. It is rather stiff and I was wondering how one softened it so that it can be used and also how one cuts it. Thanks in advance. BBurg

    buying round balls

Oh, at 80 grains powder for shot, I'll need about 11.5 pounds of powder, too.

    buying round balls

BTW the Eddie May 0.490's arrived yesterday. Total weight 26 pounds. That should keep me shooting for a LONG time.

    Patch cutter

The WalMart here has already closed down its fabric department. I guess that they find people here making clothes is too much competition for their Chinese suppliers.

    Patch cutter

What does the 40 refer to? The threads per inch?

    Patch cutter

Unfortunately there is only one in Alabama (Mobile) and that's about as close as Atlanta (200+ miles). I looked at their website and haven't found it yet. In any case, thanks for your help. BBurg

    Patch cutter

Does anyone know of an on-line vendor that sells 0.015 ticking? I have gone to my local sewing shop and the ticking was either 0.010 or 0.020. I also got the funniest looks as I calipered each of the bolts.

    Minimum shop tools

The gun vise was actually a wooden stand with 2 sets of clamps on either end that was posted a month or so ago. I have the printout in my car and at lunch, I will get at least the forum ID of the person who posted it.
