When you guys order your powder how much priming powder do you order with however many pounds of main charge. If I shoot 70 grains in the main how long would a pound of 4f last do you think?

considering most people use 3gr or less to prime their pans a pound should last several years.

When I order a case of Goex I get 1 can 4F and 24 cans 3F.

I know I get about 2300+ pan primes from a can of 4F.

70grns per main charge is 100 shots per can of 3F.

A case of 24 cans 3F is about 2400 shots.

A can of 4F lasts me about 14-15 months.

I think my 4F regenerates itself! It never seems to get used up! I am switiching over to 0ne powder, 3F for main and prime

I have been shooting for about 35 years and I am on my 2nd can of 4f. Of course, I shoot percussion some too. Not all flint. Mostly flint though.

I shot 27 lbs.of 3F Schuetzen last year it took 1 can of Swiss Null-B{4F}. This does not count the 2F smooth bores in which I use Goex 4F. I think along the lines of RB when I buy a case of powder I buy a can of 4F.

27 pounds last year??

You are a god............ and we all should take notes from you on how to get out and shoot more.

I do about 2 pounds a year or should I say 1 pound plus and always wish I could get out more but seems that I must be the busiest MO FO on earth as it just never works out the way I had planned and the available shooting time gets taken up by other things. (I will keep trying)

Yes I am retired live out the wilds of Wyoming. I don't have any thing else to do except shoot and hunt. I try to shoot every day, some days all day long. My Gordon Setter and I spend all day burning powder.
I all so shoot CF varmint rifles P'Dog Shoot'in. When Its gets cold I head down to Az. to an old USMC Range and shoot all winter. I make all the Rondys we can around the west.
I don't think I am a god. My wife thinks I am a Devil the way I waste money on this shoot'in thing. By the way I use 4 grs. of 4F for most of my shootin the wind is a big factor here. :cursing:

I purchased my first flinter eight years ago and with it, two cans of goex 4FG. I am still on that first can and it is more than half full, with the other half still in the priming horn. I doubt that anyone still has their first can of percussion caps after that length of time.

At the rate I shoot anymore a can of 4F will last me a lifetime !! I bought 3 cans of 4F about 1999 and I am just about finished with the first can. However, the only time I use 4F is at the range, as when I hunt I use the same powder in the pan as what I have int the horn or flask.

There is a very simple relationship -- A pound of powder is 7000 grains (by definition), so if your charge is 70 grains, you get 100 shots.

Now if your wife (sexist assumption) is involved, your 70 grains of powder is the equivalent of nearly 23 carets (200 milligrams) of stones. Now I would go with CZ's but she'd prefer C.

When I shot alot, mostly shotgun, I would burn up a pound of 4f a year or about... I fill a chambers virginia lock with the pan full, for best igniton in my gun. The virginia lock can hold alot of powder, .. when i was practicing for tournaments with shotgun, i would generally shoot a pound of 2f a day, but that was percussion years ago... I no longer use percussion, and fish in the spring and summer now... But ill need to get going soon practicing for hunting season... When the going gets tough, cold,or damp, etc and lots of gunning the little locks just dont suit me... my opinion only... dave

4f is like eating oatmeal. It gets bigger while you are using it.

Seriously, I have not used it as much as I thought that I would since I often prime with my 3f main charge powder. It is only for best accuracy that I bother with it or when I am trying to clear a dry ball for someone (or myself) that I find it most helpful.
