    Tingle rifles, pistols, and shotguns

As a boy during, the mid to late 60's, I was a target boy at the Indiana State Shoot then held in Indy. I recall several pistol shooters using a "contoversial" target pistol built by Tingle. Essentially it was a well built "direct ignition" pistol which was veeeery accurate in the hands of a...

Without giving away too much information, what unit are you hunting? Snow

Overshot cards useless? Overpowder wads useless?

In my veeery unscientific study I must admit the idea of carrying only 1 wad to be ideal for my smoothbore shooting. If you have a good supply of thin over shot wads, use them, no shame nor ill effects to patterns in their use. Its the big half inch fiber wads I find to be near usless. I have...

    What cal for elk

In 1998 I was on my first elk trip in Colorado. At the time I was shooting a a recurve. On the 5th day my hunting partner killed a nice cow elk with his training wheel bow. This was my first time up close to an elk and my initial reaction was " Bill, ya killed somebody's horse!" I have since...

Anyone Ever Try a 28 Gauge Load Like This?

Agree with RB. The CoW would act as a buffer behind the ball and would disipate very quickly hense having no effect on the ball once leaving the muzzle. CoW after the ball I'm at a loss as to what advantage it would serve... :hmm: this has me wondering what effect a CoW wad would have on a shot...

Are underhammer rifles frowned upon at traditional shoots?

My experience has been, no one will complain about your rifle until you start winning matches. Snow

Is 24Gauge OK for Turkey Hunting?

In theory, yes. However be sure to check your state regs. Here in the "People's Republic of Illinois" .20 gauge is the minimum allowed. Snow

Ball size for 20 ga. fowler

My TVM measures .615. A .600 RB can be thumb started but after 3-4 shots it requires a shot started. I have used .575 RB with .020 ticking with very good results. Try it...

    Bucket list

Moose, 'Bou, and the ever elusive Wapati...those big Bear in alaska would be good too! Oh and I wouldn't double the ball the .50 I would just go up in size...playing with a .729 myself after using a .62 last year. When hunting animals the size of a Buick size DOES matter. Snow

    Blowing Down Barrel

Actually it is Right wing left handed, left wing right handed. If you ever shot bare knuckled rather than off of the shelf you'd know this isn't an old wive's tale...and I blow down the barrel too. Snow

    Horn Staples, a neophyte question.

Good info! The reason I inquire, I have come upon a horn of contemporary make which has a pair od eye screws mounted for a strap. Though unattractive the eye screws are functional. I started to wonder if I could use some sort of staple to replace those ugly screws. As always you gents have given...

    Redux - Bamboo ram rods

Don't know about 1865 but I have a 48"bamboo rod built in 1965. Still as strong as ever. I've used it as a range rod since the 1970's. It is made of split sections glued together much like a flyrod. snow

Very interesting. What thickness of ticking did you use? Looks like unwashed .020 in the pics. Snow

    Cal. Choice

Swampy thinks he is Elmer Kieth :blah: I started this game 40 + years ago with a .45 and used a .62 this year but I have killed more deer with a .530 round ball than any other single projectile. In a Haines .54 would be my choice. Snow
