I just found out that I drew a Colorado muzzleloader elk tag. I've had some trail cameras out for a few months now just to see if I can get pictures of a bull in the area. I got this picture off the camera today:

Should be an exciting hunt. I have called in a lion in this area before while elk hunting.

While Ive always wanted to hunt one of those, I'm thinking Id be carrying an unmentionable as backup before shooting it with a single shot anything.. :shocked2:

In any case, great pic, Im envious!

For those who may not know it, those cats taste pretty good too. I took one down in NM back in 1994. Great hunt horse back with dogs.

Make sure you have a modern backup for your frontstuffer!

I've heard it is very similar in texture and taste to veal. True...?

Snow, that's "too much information". Let's just say that it's north of I-70 and west of I-25

I have had a smoked mountain lion ham. To me it tasted like lean pork. Very, very tasty!

BTW, this cat is sniffing right where my dog was about 9 hours earlier. The dog must have urinated there while I was messing with the camera.

Here's a pic of a mtn. lion I called in in 2009. It was about 3 miles away from where my trail cam is set up now.

...and another trail camera picture from a bit farther away but maybe 5 miles as the crow flies:

OK, just one more from the same general area. This was also a trail camera picture from last year of a thirsty cat:

That first photo is a beautiful animal for sure !

(I couldn't / wouldn't be able to kill it)

To see them while out hunting is truely awsome. I had one stalk up on a cow and calf that were feeding out in front of me last season during our ML season. The unit I was hunting was closed to cow harvest and I had a Kitty tag so I figured if I cant shoot a cow he was not going to kill one on my watch. Long story short I shot to tall and just grazed it.Very exciting tense moments for sure! Great trail cam photos..good luck in the fall.

I could'nt shoot one. To me they are too of a magnifecent(sp) of animal to shoot. Plus I reckon it's because I have cats as pets and I could'nt shoot one of their kin.

"I tawt I saw a puddy tat I did I did" Beautiful animal.....do they have 9 lives too?If so better use a BIG BORE something and a back up of some nature may be in order.A heavy loaded Howdah maybe :hmm: .Just to keep in the "spirit" of this board. But the practical side of me says something else would make me feel better if allowed by regulations in the area.

COOL!
I beleve in fair chase lion hunting myself.
I use a lost calf distress call and do prtty well.
called a lion off his kill.
