My pillow "tickle" cloth shot cup for 20 gauge

Heres what I came up for my 20 gauge double BP shotgun "tickle" cup!

Pics show how!

I used a AA battery to form cup. It worked great for 20 gauge (I'll make a wood one soon)

The "tickling cup" holds 1 1/8 of # 7 1/2 shot. I'll start with 70 gr. of FFF --- .450 lubed wad---'tickle' cup--- OS card.

Mazo Kid ... I cut a few 1/2 slits in cup. I'll try them out today..I'll show results later.

I had the same thought, so I'm waiting for shooting results. If it's a problem, the fix would be easy. Just make 3 or 4 cuts part way down the sides so they would "petal" open after exiting the bore.

I think you're onto something Jeffdrown, even if a little adjusting to the approach is needed. Nothing insurmountable, and the time spent at home making these would sure ease up the field hassles.

Brown Bear... I forgot to say at start of Topic..But I do cut a few slits about a 1/2 inch down sides... Theses cups are really easy to make ahead of time . I hope the work out well!

I'm not sure about lubing the cup? I'm thinking the lubed Cushion Wad will lube the barrel enough..I'll see ? This is way to much fun !!

Thanks for the update. I think you're really onto something!

Any thoughts on lubing the cups themselves, or will you initially shoot with just the lubed base wad. I ask because with my round patches unlubed I found that the lubed base wad was not enough, and loading got difficult in a hurry due to hard fouling. I ended up with a dry .125 "nitro" card under the lubed ticking, which seemed to scrape the bore pretty good, easing the following lubed ticking.

As for lubes I use beeswax cut with olive oil to the rough consistency of chapstick. With the flat patches, I just put some in a ziploc with some lube and stuck it in the microwave for around 20 seconds.

Not a big deal to prelube the patches, and if you need to lube your cups I'm betting you can find a good lube that's easy to apply ahead of time.

I could lube the cup very easy when forming cloth is done and still on form !

Love the pattern, clean and the "flaps" on the bottom look as though they would give an acceptable seal without a bunch of bulges and wrinkles etc.

Bet it would work well with paper also.

I like a lube that's a little "stiff" at field temps, so I could see keeping a pan of it warm and handy, then dipping the cups in it before pushing them off the form.

Other solutions are certainly available, so let us know what works best for you.

An interesting approach to a shot cup...would have to tighten the pattern some in a cylinder bore barrel.

Seems like a "tin" of some sort would hold / protect them...Altoids tin, Sucrets tin, etc...

If an OP card or wad will be used to protect the powder from lube contamination, I bet the pillow ticking could even be wet lubed ahead of time with something like Hoppes PLUS BP...no worry about fouling build up then.

Or the Liquid Wonder Lube that's available...I made 3 pillow ticking patches glistening wet with the LWL and laid them in my freezer for a full week...never froze...in fact each day when I'd pick one up to check for stiffness I'd still get a trace of liquid on my fingers.

what are you using to keep them together at the seams?
Is it water soluble? Glue of some sort?
With your unwashed ticking lube will not hold as well.....in my ticking cups I apply them wet into the barrel...zero fowling issues. Remember fowling is not your friend with smooth bores!

I use one stiff over powder card dry to keep the powder dry.
short start them to see that the shot fills to the top and place 2 over shot cards to top it off
push it all down the barrel with a lubed patch behind the jag.
