Color for upgraded maple GPR stock

That is the reddish brown color I am talking about but I see the aquaforis also can produce a blondish color. I guess I will have to experiment, I had the impression a stain was used to get the red undertones.

Color for upgraded maple GPR stock

The website for Tiger Hunt gunstocks is www.gunstockwood.com and the mans name is Michael Barton. The website does not specifically list a stock for the GPR but in speaking with him he does have a pattern and will make one. Tiger Hunt is also listed under the link section in forum index section...

Color for upgraded maple GPR stock

I have ordered a fancy maple stock for my GPR from Tiger Hunt, if anyone is interested Mike will make a duplicate of the halfstock that comes with the kit. I would like to finish it in that deep reddish brown color that is found on a lot of custom rifles, if anyone would have pictures of how a...

    GPR Flintlock .54

I am real happy with my Great Plains flintlock rifle .54 caliber that I built from a kit about five years ago although I am just starting to get more serious about my flintlock shooting mostly due to being inspired by this site. A couple notes that may help, I replaced the vent liner with one...

    Sights for a GPR

I too am finding I like the primitive sight on my GPR flinter with the wide blade front sight that came with the rifle better than the adjustable buckhorn that also comes with it. I would think these would be fairly inexpensive to get from Lyman.

    New sight on TC flintlock

    Thanks Pete44 that was informative.

    New sight on TC flintlock

How did you cut the dovetail. I have looked at and liked that sight for awhile. It would be nice on both my Renegade which would need the dovetail cut and on my GPR which would need the existing one made bigger. I believe that assembly moves the sight back an inch or two doesn't it?, I think...

    Best GPR Knapper Flint Size

To date I have been using the machined flints in my Great Plains Rifle with good ignition but I want to try the English knapped flints. I have some 5/8" that seem to small, I see that Track offers both a 3/4"x 3/4" and a 3/4" x 7/8" what are you guys using and how are you placing the bevel. With...

Peep sight on a TC Renegade

I had to drill and tap one additional hole for the TC peep on my Renegade, from the picture it looks like your rifle is already set up for one as it has three screws in the tang where mine had only two, it is the middle one that is added for the sight.

    My 4-gauge rifle

That is a really nice looking rifle it is amazing to think of the early African hunters having hunted with a bore like that, definitely be carefull you don't shoot your eye out.

    Old gunmaker

I am seeing a John Sherry listed on page 430 in the list of old-time gunmakers in the back of the book It says he was from Lancaster Pa. and born in 1797. I have not found the picture or write up in a quick look through the book if I do I will get back to you.

    Buckhorn sights

Thanks for the advice everyone, it seems a thinner front sight is in order the existing one pretty much covers the the notch in the rear and I can not tell if it is centered. Is there a silver blade front sight that fits the front Lyman dovetail?

    Buckhorn sights

Could someone please explain the proper sight picture to use with the buckhorn rear sight and wide front blade that came with my Great Plains Flint Rifle,I am just not finding anything I am consistent with. I had put a T.C. peep on but I would like to shoot with the open sights. Thanks.

    Squirrel Gun

Hey, I am from South Jersey the laws with the muzzleloading squirrel season are peculiar it took me a while to figure out that my hunting area was within the allowed area. In any case I am shooting a .36 cal Hopkins & Allen underhammer that I built from a kit which came from Deer Creek Products...
