I am new to BP and I need some help. Here are my TC Renegade Cal. 50, I think installing a Peep sight. What would be the sight that I could install directly without having to drill and tap extra holes. Will I have to also replace the front sight or is it correct that way ? Any suggestion will help and will be appreciate. Thanks to all !

TC makes a peep site that will fit on your rifle. Older rifles already have the extra hole for that sight. Newer rifles require drilling a tapping one hole. If peep is removed, hole can be filled with a plug screw. A much better peep sight is the Lyman 57 peep sight. With either peep sight you can use your front sight or change it to anything you like.

I'm not familiar with your rifle but it looks like that small screw in the center of your tang might be for the TC peep. I have a TC peep sitting here and the mounting holes are !-1/4 inches on center!

Having done it...T/C DOES make a peep that will fight right on and it will work with your front sight. OR there are a few other peeps that can work, most noteably te Lyman peep; There are some real fans of those on this forum.
I had the T/C peep and got rid of it in favor of putting a dove-tailed semi-buckhorn on for a rear sight. I personally prefer this MUCH Better. I use it for hunting.
The dove-tailing and buck-horn sights were the cheapest at about $40.00 installed. The T/C peep is about $70.00, and the Lyman is a tad more I believe.
Love to see what you decide.

I use the Lyman 57 SML peep on all my ML rifles. I also use either the Lyman 17 AML globe front sight with Lee Shavers long-range inserts, or the Lee shavers globe with the LR inserts.
I guess the original front sight might work but the Renegade front sight is so wide and bulky that it covers up most of the animal even animals as big as deer. I like to be able to see what I am shooting at. I like to pick my spot to hit. If the front sight covers up half the animal at 100 yards what good is it? With the LR inserts I can aim at a ground squirrel at 150 yards.

In this last picture this is a milk jug I was shooting at, at 150 yards. Before I hunt a lot of times I only go out and shoot one shot a day for practice. This shot I was aiming at the paper.

It has been said that my set up would not be that great for deep dark timber. I don’t know for sure because I hunt wide open areas for mule deer. For what I use them for the Lyman peep and the Lyman globe are just the ticket. Ron

Yup your rifle is set up for the lyman 57 sml or the TC peep sights I have both and prefer the Lyman. The broad square front sight just like you already have seems to work best for me.

I found that if I drill out the peep until the globe just fits in the circle the low light doesn't bother it and it's still real accurate.

#1- adjustability in the field is the biggest for me. I have my sight sighted in with my range finder. I can get the yardage and set my sight to that yardage. Much like the vernier tang sight from years gone by. I have done that on 4 deer so far. Range the deer set the sight, then make the shot.

#2- the adjustments are 1/4 “click adjustments” for fine tuning. Or a guy has the option for a push button quick adjustment.

#3- The ability to take the sight off and put it in my pocket to keep it from getting banged up. I think that putting them into cars, trucks, and ATV’s is harder on sights than hunting is. I take mine off and keep it in my pocket until I get to where I want to hunt.

#4- Lastly the sight is repeatable. I have my own yardages marked into the side of the scale. I have 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 painted on the scale. If I want to quickly go to 125 yards I have confidence that I can set the sight between 100 and 150 and it WILL be 125. I also know it will be that today, tomorrow, and next month.
I have shot these sights long enough to know I can trust them to be on when I need them to be. Ron

I had to drill and tap one additional hole for the TC peep on my Renegade, from the picture it looks like your rifle is already set up for one as it has three screws in the tang where mine had only two, it is the middle one that is added for the sight.

Here is what the TC sights look like.

This is on my 54 cal Renegade.

TC peep should be considered non adjustable when hunting in the field because it requires a small Allen wrench to adjust.

Here is a globe front sight which I like for punching holes in paper but not for hunting because it is too hard to pick up.

The Lyman would be a much better choice for hunting but the TC is fine for target shooting.

I disagree!

unscrew the small peep and just use the threaded ring and you are good to go hunting-low light and all.

The lyman is big and balky and gets in the way!....look at the picture and compare.

shot with both the t/C stayed!

YMMV.

The ghost ring does work well with the TC sight. It has a smaller hole than the Lyman. That is the way I shoot my 58 most of the time.

Hey Ron,
You actually got a 57sml to fit on a renegade without removing wood?
Did you grind out the side of the mount?
Or maybe that's an old style vrs new?

Williams makes appters that fit in either the TC or Lyman peep sight. I like the Williams twilight in either .125 or .150 dia hole. For hunting a TC fiber optic front sight will also help.

When fitting a Lyman peep sight to a rifle you do not remove wood from the stock. You remove some metal from the sight to fit it.

Well, looks like if you hunt open country like Idaho then the Lyman sight would be the better mouse trap.
I got to run around there some from Billings to Soda Springs a while back. Sure did enjoy it.

Thank you all for your help and for all that information very relevant. Finaly, I think I will go for the Lyman 57SML and maybe eventually I will add a Glode 17AML as a front sight. Thanks to all of you. I really appreciate all of your reply.
