Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
Guys, after the bending, I recentered my sights and shot today. Prior to bending I was 7-8" left at 25 yds. Different loads produced similar results. After bending and centered sights I am 1-2" left. I tapped both front and rear sights and now I am zero! I wish the sights were dead on but this...
Keith, I did notice while laying the barrel flat on glass that the flats are not the same as you are asking. With the breach end securely flat, the same flat does not lay flat at the muzzle. i.e. it is raised on one side. Making the barrel slightly "twisted? Its about 1/8 off! Never noticed this...
I'm so sorry, I have just ordered a new barrel in a .40 that is a B weight. The information on this new gun is stuck in my mind. You are correct this is a C weight... So sorry to muddy the water... I will get my facts correct on future posts.
Hey Keith, my barrel is a B weight, .54 cal, 42"... Called Cabin Creek, kit supplier, and he said bend the barrel. I blocked it measured with a caliper and end result was movement of .062" or 1/16". That should bring my group close to center at 25 yds. I'm about 7-8" left consistently. Let my...
Hello again, I'm a new flintlock builder/shooter and my kit came with a Colerain barrel that is fine except it shoots pretty far left. I have moved sights as far as I can and it shoots nice groups but the front and rear sights look terrible. I know that should not matter but that stuff drives me...
Hey all, im a big Turkey hunter and I am going to try and work up a load for my new .28 gauge, 42" flintlock I just completed. I have #5 and #6 chilled shot, overshot cards, 1/2" lubed cushion wad, and both 2F and 3F. Any help would be great...
Thanks gentlemen, the overwhelming consensus is the .40! I will sleep better now knowing that question is over... Now to order my gun! York from Chambers...
I have built a new gun with a .54 Colerain barrel and new to the sport. Trying to work up a load and was wondering about ticking thickness. I'm shooting .530 ball as of now and was wondering how thick of ticking I should use. Is it very important? Can it be to thin or to thick? Thanks
Here in Tennessee a .36 is legal for ALL big game in our state... I thank you for your replys and I think I am reluctantly leaning toward the .40 for now...
Hey guys, thanks to you ALL for your "two cents". I typically downsize where possible. In Tennessee muzzleloader "big game" is legal starting at .36, thus my original desire for that cal. However after deferring to your suggestions the consensus seems to be leaning in the .40 direction... I...
I'm 51, just completed my firs build from Cabin Creek, next build from Jim Chambers then I'm on my own on stock/ barrel in letting! I agree, I hunt turkeys and this will bring back that historical meaning to hunting that our founding fathers began. Go read "One Mans War"... That started me on...
My question is about a .36 vs .40 that I am wanting to build. Wanting a 42" barrel. Looking for that slider long profile. This will be used for fun, squirrels, rabbits. I am not interested in a .32... Thanks for your input.
The barrel was so if I only built one gun I could use it for both ball or shot while obtaining further distance. The straight rifle gives about 25% farther shot with ball and allowing you to shoot shot thru the same barrel. That was the first rifleing used prior to a twist. Just fun tho do both...
