    Pedersoli Bess with wooden ramrod?

    Thanks!

    Pedersoli Bess with wooden ramrod?

Thanks everyone for the info and discussion. I apologise for not responding in a more timely manner, but life tends to get busy this time of year. I realize that there is a lot more than just the rammer inacurate to the period, but the wood rammer seems to me to be the most visually obvious...

    Pedersoli Bess with wooden ramrod?

What is involved with converting a Pedersoli brown Bess to a wooden rammrod? Just a pipe change? Will I need to drill out the stock behind/under the rear pipe? Reasons I ask are I'd like the better historical accuracy for the F&I period, and the cleaner loading. Thanks.

    Brown Bess Bayonet

    Thanks!

    Brown Bess Bayonet

Oh well. If the cheaper ones are that bad I suppose I'll just hold off on getting one until I can get a good deal on a used Pedersoli. Thanks folks.

    Brown Bess Bayonet

I finally picked up a Bess the other day (Pedersoli), and though it came with everything I'll need to shoot it, I'd like to get a bayonet for it as well. So I'm trying to discern whether the bayonets I see several places for ~$60-70 are worth buying? I'd like one that was reasonably durable- I...

    Leather patched ball?

So I've been thinking of squirrel hunting with a muzzleloader, but the only rifle I've got is a .58 Hawken. Kinda big to be shooting at squirrels with, but recently on a woods walk I realized I might not have enough rb's to shoot all the targets (I did) and one of the guys I was shooting with...

    .82 dragoon

Ah, should have noticed the book cover. Still looks like a very nicely done pistol.

    .82 dragoon

Very interesting! Especially in left hand. And looks well executed too. :applause: Are you making (or having made) a custom mould? Or is there someone selling balls that large? An .810 RB of pure lead should be just shy of 800grs unless I've done my math wrong. What kind of charge are you...

    Patch Grease

I use a 1-1-1 ratio of Murphy's oil soap, rubbing alcohol, and water, and can easily shoot 20+ balls and still have them load easy. It's also what I use to clean at the end of the day, and it works as well as anything I've used.

    Converting from perc. to flint?

I have a .58 Cabela's Hawken which I like, but I'm wondering if it would be possible to buy a flint lock and switch them back and forth. This is my primary deer rifle, so I want to have the option to shoot it as a percussion gun, but I would also like to experiment with a flintlock without...

    .44 caliber Pedersoli Kentucky?

I have a flintlock Kentucky pistol with a Pedersoli marked barrel given me by my father for Christmas about 5-6 years ago, which I've fired less than 10 shots through in that time. He was told by the man he bought it from that it was a .45 caliber. So we took it to the range with some .440 round...

    CVA with possible problems

Alright, thanks for the advice. I'll just stick that $100 into a future flintlock fund and wait for something better.

    CVA with possible problems

Saw a .50 cal CVA flintlock rifle at a pawn shop today. Really tempted by the $99 price tag, but worried about a couple things, so it's still there. First thing is that the touch hole is cone shaped, and the large end (towards the pan) is as wide as the channel in the pan where the powder sits...

    Cap to flint conversion

That's very interesting indeed. Makes sense for a rifle going to the colonies. Also interesting about the conicals/flintlock idea. I wonder if that would hold true with a modern repro lock. One of the things I'd like to use are Minie-balls for the speed of loading (for target shooting), but I'll...

    rod stuck in barrel

Thanks guys. That did the trick. Now just have to figure out how to repair/replace the rod.

    Cap to flint conversion

I'm not really trying to be historically accurate, won't be doing much with it besides shooting targets and maybe a deer if I get lucky. Mostly wondering if anyone had attempted something similar.

    rod stuck in barrel

Well, I shot my Pedersoli Kentucky pistol today, and like an idiot tried to use the ram rod as a cleaning rod with a bit of paper towel. It got stuck, and while I was trying to get it out I managed to snap the brass cap off the end. Now I've broken it and it's still stuck in my barrel. :cursing...

    Cap to flint conversion

Well I'm looking at getting my first black powder long gun (have a .45 flint Kentucky pistol), and I'm afraid no one makes quite what I want. The reason for this is likely that what I want isn't in the least historically accurate. I'd like a flintlock musket, but with a rifled bore. And by...

    Problems with a Kentucky pistol.

Good to know on the ball size. The reason I was looking at the sizer is that I've already got a .440 mold. Oh well. I'll have to see if I can trade it in. As far as the age of the pistol... I'm 95% sure my dad paid $100-125 for it about 3-4 years back, so I doubt if it's near new (though it is...
