    Uggg Crud Ring Attack

Mixing of the organic compounds in the powder and primer/caps under heat is causing the ring. Cooler ignition, less crud.

First Cap and Ball Revolver Recommendations

"Some shooters with small hands like the Navy style, while shooters with large hands say they like the Army size. Some shooters mix it around, some with large say they like the Navy better, some with small say they like the Army grip. Boils down to whatever you feel comfortable with. I don't...

First Cap and Ball Revolver Recommendations

Thanks for the advice on the pocket models. I thought I had read that somewhere before but wasn't sure. Nice to know beforehand. The barrel advice makes sense too, didn't realize it was to that degree with revolvers. With typical rifle lengths, I've heard its around 17 fps per inch but I have...

First Cap and Ball Revolver Recommendations

Narrowing it down a bit. I think the top 3 at this point are the Uberti 1862 Navy 7.5, 1851 Navy 7.5", and 1862 Pocket Police 6.5" in no particular order.

First Cap and Ball Revolver Recommendations

Taylor & Company and Dixie definitely allow returns according to their websites. Midway is a like a drug dealer, just a middleman. Don't get me wrong nothing against Midway USA, I shop there a lot. Just cautious about something like this where the product can be such a crapshoot!

First Cap and Ball Revolver Recommendations

Not saying that at all. I live in Yuma, not Phoenix. Depending on where you are passing through maybe, but you would likely have to hunt for BP revolvers. I am not aware of a store that regularly stocks any variety of this stuff but could be somewhere out of plain view.

First Cap and Ball Revolver Recommendations

Normally I'm a huge fan of anything Ruger but that gun is probably a bit much for the first go round.

I never considered the increased leverage of the longer loading lever to be such a factor.

Wish I could handle a few to try, nobody around here stocks this stuff.

First Cap and Ball Revolver Recommendations

I figured the shorter guns were way more comfortable to handle as well. Any pistol I have ever shot more than 6 inches in barrel length felt very awkward and front heavy, very uncomfortable for the most part. Not sure why that would be any different with one of these. Seems like a gun that...

First Cap and Ball Revolver Recommendations

I know Pietta makes a Belt Pistol, does Uberti make something like that in a 36? Haven't seen one that I recall?

First Cap and Ball Revolver Recommendations

Looking for recommendations on a first black powder revolver. Not my first firearm. I have other cartridge and black powder arms already but don't have a pistol that shoots cap and ball. I'm thinking .36 caliber is what I would like best but might be convinced otherwise. I seem to like the looks...

Patch lube for round ball shooting..........Lawdy.

Is the newer Gojo formulation without Lanolin any good as a patch lube and cleaner still? I see some very old recommendations for this as a patch lube but wondering about the current version?

    Number 11 cap shortage?

I bought a Thompson Center original Musket Cap and Number 11 Cap from The Gun Works online. You can probably find a cheaper version but I chose to spend a little more for the T/C versions of both. https://www.thegunworks.com/custprodgun.cfm?ProductID=533&do=detail&Cat2Option=yes another less...
