    Uberti Walker range report

Took my new Uberti Walker to the range last Saturday and was impressed. I loaded it up with 40 grains of Goex FFFG, a felt wad with a little bore butter on it, a .454 round ball and #10 Remington caps. The balls went in easy, just a little ring of lead was shaved from them. I set up a target...

    First time out

My Pedersoli Kentucky rifle is just fine. It is reliable and shoots straight. It was my first flintlock, and before I shot it I read everything I could about the rifle and flintlocks in general. It led to information overload, which made me take longer than I should have to go to the range...

    First time out

Finally got out to shoot the used ( new to me ) Pedersoli Kentucky rifle. Wow!! I might be hooked on flintlocks. The guy I bought it from said he couldn't get it to work, so he sold it to me for a hundred bucks and said "good luck". The flint that was on the rifle was a black one that looked to...

    Homemade FFFFG powder?

I just got my first flintlock and can't wait to shoot it. I don't have any FFFFG powder for priming the pan. The guy I bought it from said he made his own by putting some FFFG in a 35mm film container with a couple of round balls and just shook it up until he got a fine powder. Has anyone...

    White powder on round balls

I was given a container with about 200 .490 round balls. They had been stored in a garage. Most of them are covered with a white powder ( corrosion? ). Are they good to be used as is, or do they need to be cleaned. If they need to be cleaned , how so? Thanks

    TC Hunter Style Peep Sight

Thanks for the info. A couple of questions though. Do you have to change the front sight? And does the rear sight have to be removed? My renegade will shoot a 3" group at 75 yards. I know the rifle is capable of better accuracy, its just a matter of tweaking the shooter. Thanks again.

    TC Hunter Style Peep Sight

My eyes are getting old. I,m thinking about a peep sight for my .50 cal renegade. What kind did you get, and where did you get it from. I,ve seen that Cabellas has a peep for T/C rifles listed in their catalog. Is anyone familiar with this sight?

    Dumb question?

The nipples on the pistol are new ones that I just got from Dixie Gun Works. I took one of the nipples to the local gun shop and they let me try some #10 cap on for size. Still too loose. If I'm going to have to pinch caps I might as well just pinch some of the hundreds of #11's I allready have...

    Dumb question?

#11 caps fit loosly on my 1860 Army. I have to pinch them so they don't fall off. Are #10 caps smaller? If so, are they significatly smaller or just a little bit? I would like to be able to use a capper to load the pistol rather than fumble around with my bare fingers. Thanks for any help.

    1860 Project update

My rusted pile of parts is now ready to shoot. I ordered nipples, a wedge and a main spring from Dixie Gun Works. VTI wasn't much help since they don't stock Euroarms parts. The wedge took a couple of minutes of file work to fit it to the pistol. The mainspring fit perfectly. The knipples were...

    CVA double gift

Ditto, I have a CVA Kentucky rifle and pistol both .45s. I bought them as kits for my father back in the seventies. He had them as wall hangers until his death. They came to me about six years ago and I finally shot them last fall. The rifle is a tack driver with 40 grains of Graf & Sons FFG...

    1860 project

Thanks, great info, I'll start the autopsy tomorrow. I determined that was was made by Euroarms. Their mark was hard to find. I checked out VTI's site. I'll call them once I have the pistol disassembled. Do you know off hand if Euroams uses a .451 or a .454 ball. I don't remember what size I...

    1860 project

I have an 1860 army that I bought in the late 70's. It needs a barrel wedge and three nipples. It is in time with a good lock up. I tried to pop some caps with it and it was a no go. I figured the mainspring was weak. Went ahead and backed the knipples out a half a turn and got perfect ignition...

    Hey from Illinois

Hey Jerthro, I'm in the Chicagoland area. Up north in a town called Mundelein. Since getting back into the sport I've shot several times in Ottawa. I imagine you're further south. I'm to check out a black powder range in Rockford if I ever find time.

    Hey from Illinois

Just getting back into muzzle loading. I have a.50 cal renegade and .45 cal CVA Kentucky rifle that my dad built from a kit in the 70's. The .45 shoots like a dream. I also have a box of parts that used to be a 1860 army replica (winter project). Glad to be a part of the muzzle loading nation.
