Dumb question?

#11 caps fit loosly on my 1860 Army. I have to pinch them so they don't fall off. Are #10 caps smaller? If so, are they significatly smaller or just a little bit? I would like to be able to use a capper to load the pistol rather than fumble around with my bare fingers. Thanks for any help.

yes the #10 caps are smaller and vary slightly in i.d. according to maker. or at least the CCI and Rem. caps I've used do. there is a capper made just for revolver nipples - Ted Cash teardrop pattern. I don't think you should use #11's unless the nipple is sized specifically for them.

I use CCI #10s on my Uberti 1860 but I still have to pinch them first.

If CCI's fall off try RWS if you can find them. They're a tad smaller than CCI. Remingtons are a tad bigger.

The other option is to get a new set of after market nipples.

The nipples on the pistol are new ones that I just got from Dixie Gun Works. I took one of the nipples to the local gun shop and they let me try some #10 cap on for size. Still too loose. If I'm going to have to pinch caps I might as well just pinch some of the hundreds of #11's I allready have. Both sizes I tried were CCI brand. CCI is all that is available around here.
