    Lyman Trade rifle

I have one in .54 also. If a hunting rifle is your goal, then you could not do better than the Trade Rifle. The single trigger has an excellent trigger pull and is preferred by many over double set triggers in a hunting rifle. FWIW, I much prefer the simpler and, to me, more "traditional" look...

    New Movie The Revenant?

True enough I suppose, keeping in mind that often "knowledge" turns out to be "opinion".

    Competetion Shooting

What he said. Mr. Steele offers sage advice. You should get some hand-on experience on a good but moderately priced rifle before you make any expensive decisions. After while, with some club shoots and rondys under your belt, you will know if you want to upgrade your equipment. And the type of...

    Powder choice

Larry, I have heard good things about KIK. I'm kind of a Goex/Olde Eynsford user because I only live 10 minutes from a Goex master distributer, J&J Pyrotechnics in Moscow, PA. I just looked in my email file and, at the time of my last order (over a year ago), my pick-up price was 13.10 for Goex...

    Powder choice

I used to use Goex with perfectly satisfactory results. Placed a bulk order last year and chose to get Olde Eynsford because it is supposed to be made to a higher degree of uniformity than plain Goex and was only a dollar or so more per pound. Works very well for me and I will stick with it...

    CVA percussion .50 caliber

I believe the rear sight you removed is one of the sights CVA used on their Hawken pistol and some long guns also. There were many iterations of their products depending on which components they had in inventory.

    Pedersoli Harpers Ferry Percussion Pistol

Great job on your review of your new pistol. Informative and a very enjoyable read, especially with all the pics. Hope to hear more from you in the future as you acquire new guns. Or write-ups on your old guns as well. And a happy new year to you also!

    unknown target pistol

Where in NE PA do you shoot? I'm in NE PA myself near Moscow and wouldn't mind taking a look on your trade blanket myself.

List of all the CVA sidelock muzzleloaders ever made?

One major difference being that the locks on models with double set triggers have a bridle and fly, whereas the single trigger models do not.

List of all the CVA sidelock muzzleloaders ever made?

They made one called the "Kentucky Hunter". Also the "Zouave"

    WD40

My experience has been the same....I've not had any indication of residue after using WD40, and I've been using it for 50 years. Just remember its primary use as a moisture displacer with a light machine oil. For extended storage, you would want to use a heavier rust inhibiting oil later. I've...

    ML shooting range etiquette?

Assume you mean when the range it "hot". Ranges I shoot at require guns to be benched and unloaded after "cease fire" command when shooters go down range to pull and post targets. No gun handling whatsoever during this time.

    Saints & Strangers Mini-series

Actually, from what I have read, Squanto's actual motives were unclear and have been the subject of controversy. The historical record is cloudy as to what he was really trying to accomplish. I think the film makers did a very good job in trying to portray this aspect.

    Flintlock Disassembley Help

What 54ball said makes a lot of sense. Take it to a gunsmith before breaking out your drill. If you can get the screw out by some means without risk of damaging the lock further, OK, but why take the risk of doing expensive damage with some kitchen table gunsmithing?

    cva Kentucky hunter

The CVA Kentucky Hunter was a half-stock with double set triggers, squared cheek piece, bridled lock and brass sideplate. The barrel is similar to the barrel used on the two-piece stocked Kentucky Rifle, I believe 7/8" x 33.5". Mine is a .50 and is well balanced with the slimmer barrel. Not...

Interesting and imaginative, but simply not factual.

    .54 or .50 cal.

Another vote for the .54. Bigger bore equals (a little) less gun weight, a little more punch.

    Gallyon percussion shotgun

I have one of these I picked up a few years ago at Dixon's Muzzleloading. I got it for an attractive price because the previous owner, believe it or not, had spray painted the whole gun in a green and brown camo pattern. Story was he wanted a muzzleloader turkey gun. Some people!
