What tools did you use to do the carving in the stock?

    York Rifle

OK I see now...thank you. It is a very beautiful stock! How is fancy curly maple like to work with? Does it chisel and cut fine (like walnut or cherry) or is it hard to control with all the figure?

    cracked stock fix?

Can you post a picture of it so we can best see the problem? :hmm:

    York Rifle

Howdy from Wyoming everyone! I am 'looking' at 'possibly' building the Jim Chambers Early York Pennsylvania Rifle. At least this rifle catches my eye on his website. Like any other good engineer I am researching this possiblity well before I make a move. Sooo...I am asking for photos of your...

    Flinter kit

I am looking for an eastern style flinter, it can be a fowler or a rifle. I think I will know it when I see it. That is why I need information from all of you so I can look at what is out there in choices. I live in Powell, Wyoming. I did call Jim Chambers office and got a very nice...

    Flinter kit

Hello everyone, I was given some money from my Great Aunt when she passed away about one month ago. I was very close to her...she was like a third Grandma to me while I was growing up. To make a long story short...I have always wanted a flinter. I thought to myself there isn't a much better...

    Powder Residue problem

If it is Elephant black powder that is what is causing your fouling problems. If you were to shoot Goex Express or Swiss powder you will never go back to Elephant...that is at least what I found anyway.

    Powder Residue problem

What brand of 2F black powder are you using? 2F should be fine for a 50 caliber. I would try changing your patch lube to Lehigh Valley or Stump Killer's Moose snot...something 'wetter' to break up the fouling...but this really shouldn't be neccessary. I am really courious what brand of black...

    Hows this for color?

:hmm: What are you guys talking about? Why would you put nitrate of iron or AF on a stock? And what is nitrate of iron or AF? I am hoping to build a flinter possibly using maple wood but may use cherry...have used walnut in the past so I am ignorant on this whole maple thing. Thanks!

    Elephant

:haha: I know exactly what you mean!
  17. N

    Elephant

No I don't but I know some reinactors that might want it.
  18. N

    Elephant

I have been using it in my brass black powder shotgun shells in my single shot Stevens for bird hunting...Then on my last shot I will shoot a smokless round down the bore to aid in the cleaning process. Actually I would rather use Swiss in my shotgun shells too because I get more power and...

    Elephant

Mike Roberts, Sounds like you have had the same problems I have had. I do know a reinactor that might be interested in it...I think I will check with him. Do you know if the older stuff was of higher quality? It has been a long time since I shot any of the older stuff I own. Maybe I will...
