Middlesex vs. Discriminating General The Same!

To me it defies belief that the same companies send higher quality muskets to send to one continent but set aside lower quality from the same production lines for another. It's user error--any weapon can fail if improperly handled.

Middlesex vs. Discriminating General The Same!

:off Yes, 3 million slaves in China compared to India's 14-15 million but many, many more workers in China are in working conditions not much better than that. My point was that many more of us buy poorly made stuff from China, Bangladesh and elsewhere that we don't need every day. It's hard not...

Middlesex vs. Discriminating General The Same!

As I said, there might be some overlap and looking carefully at the pics I can see where you would say that but I know some of the guns are different. LA & VA each sell a fusil de chasse but the furniture is different, the locks are different and even the length is different. They went to great...

Middlesex vs. Discriminating General The Same!

And my apologies to you if I've come off snarky. This is an imperfect medium of communication at best. I'm a defender of Indian muskets, as I have both an Indian and a custom gun.

Middlesex vs. Discriminating General The Same!

Jake, all I said was that MV sells working firearms--they drill the vent hole, DG does not. That is not in dispute, is it? Part of DG's disclaimer:"We sell historically accurate muskets in a non-firing state...We are not legally responsible for any alteration from its present state." MV also...

Middlesex vs. Discriminating General The Same!

Considering how much stuff we Americans buy that comes from China these days...

Which Custom Cavalry Pistol Would You Choose!?

Hmm, that's tough. I like #2, I saw it on Track recently and was tempted for a moment (and saw the price!). That makes #1 a real bargain because it's a beauty. Money not being an object, I'd get #2. Money being an object, I'd go for 1 and get another on top of it--like the Pedersoli AN. IX. (The...

Which Custom Cavalry Pistol Would You Choose!?

Not sure exactly. I know it took the combined armies of Russia, Austria, Prussia and Britain 20 years of fighting to find out.

Middlesex vs. Discriminating General The Same!

DG does not sell working firearms, you have to drill the vent hole and all liability is on you. MV guarantees their locks for life (though after a year there is a $10 shipping fee) and their turn around on work is fast. Perhaps DG does sell some seconds from MV, I don't know. I had considered...

    Debating on a flintlock pistol

The guy on Armslist didn't bother to reply so back to my original choices, plus I threw the French Model 1773 into the mix. It could pass for an AN. IX except for the flashpan, both the shape and because it's steel instead of brass. I'm in no rush, weighing all my options.

    Water temp for cleaning

I had never heard of flash rust before this, had to google it. How does hot water cause it compared to other temperatures? (the definitions I looked up didn't mention that and with dialup it would take too long to look up other pages)

    Water temp for cleaning

I've seen various people post different water temps they use when cleaning their muzzleloader, anywhere from cold to scalding. Is there a consensus or is this one of topics like Indian muskets I don't want to mention for fear of starting a war? I was taught boiling water and it seems to work on...

    Debating on a flintlock pistol

Well, I've pretty much ruled out The Military Heritage AN. IX. While the furniture looks correct, and the lock is right, the shape of the grip is so off it changes the appearance so it almost looks like a different gun. The MH grip is probably more comfortable but it's less authentic. For this...

    Debating on a flintlock pistol

It does fit my period more but I like Seven Years War/F&I era as well and while I normally prefer French guns in general this may be the exception. I wonder if that's where my doubt is coming from, it's not French but I like it anyway. I think part of it may come down to which will be...

    Debating on a flintlock pistol

I thought the MVTC dragoon locks were unmarked? Apparently not? Yup, it is a good looking pistol.

    Debating on a flintlock pistol

Sigh. Yeah, it does. Maybe the thing to do is get the AN. IX and the heavy dragoon pistol! The wife will love that! :shocked2:

    Debating on a flintlock pistol

Hmm, that IS a good idea. Just when I thought I had things all figured out! So the question is--is MH stuff acceptable compared to other Indian stuff?

    Debating on a flintlock pistol

My point is Military Heritage/Discriminating General is in Canada but so is Loyalist Arms. Both sell Indian guns. Loyalist sells and ships theirs with the vent hole drilled--they sell functioning arms. Military Heritage does not, which makes me worry about their product more than Veteran Arms...

    Debating on a flintlock pistol

Ok, just as I was finally leaning towards the heavy dragoon pistol from Flintlockrepair.com (Earl Kathan's reputation seems excellent and I can drive there) over the French Model 1733 from MVTC (also well thought of and can drive there) I come across an AN. IX from of all places Military...

Any 1810-1829 low priced reproduction guns?

The An. XIII cavalry pistol went into production in 1807 but most were made 1810-1813. Don't know if that would work for you. Pedersoli has one but it's $675. I've thought of getting an An. IX myself but can't justify that expense for a handgun right now.
