SOLD Percussion altered 1838 dated Springfield M1816

I've got a very nice M1816 type III, sighted smoothbore percussion alteration by J. Hitchcock for sale. The musket is very nice. The stock is in great shape, and has a visible cartouche on the stock flat. The metal is all in excellent condition, bright and pitting free. Bore is nice. Really a...

    Unknown smoothbore caplock. European proofs.

Unless you trust a seller to take good measurements of a bayonet socket for you you'd be much better off trying them out in person. The muskets and bayonets were all hand made and hand fit, and won't freely interchange. The Mansfield Civil War show is the first weekend of May each year and...

FOR SALE Japanese Reproduction Short Land Pattern Brown Bess

Offered here is a reproduction percussion converted Short Land Pattern Brown Bess. The musket is in good shape except for a serious break through the wrist that has been rather haphazardly repaired. It was already like that when I acquired the musket and I have no idea exactly how it was...

SOLD Original Austrian M1842 Musket with Bayonet

I have for sale an original percussion altered Austrian M1842 Musket with its correct bayonet. The musket is in pretty good condition overall. The stock is very solid with no major cracks, splits, or wood loss. The buttplate is proud on the left hand side of the stock as shown in the photos. The...

    Unknown smoothbore caplock. European proofs.

I don't know if a particularly good write up on them online. I can pull some figures for you this week if you like. About 165,000 "Prussian" muskets were purchased by the US Ordnance Department during the Civil War. A little over 100,000 of them were described as smoothbores like this one. The...

    Unknown smoothbore caplock. European proofs.

It's a Prussian M1809/12 UM, or as more commonly referred to in the US a M1809/39 or Potsdam musket. The 1844D on the barrel is the year of percussion alteration and letter code for the Danzig Arsenal.

    Russian M1856 Marksman’s Rifle

Very handsome rifle. Thank you for sharing. Russian muzzleloaders are very scarce here in the US, but from time to time some Crimean War guns show up. Presumably they are war trophies that have emigrated from France and England. Post-war guns almost never show up, even cartridge conversions...

Looking for info on another old Musket

When made in 1827 it didn't have a rear sight. That notch was added by Hewes and Phillips in 1862/3 when they percussion converted it. The alteration date should be stamped atop the breech. They also replaced the front sight during the alteration. Originally it was a low profile brass sight on...

    Hi everyone,second questions

It's an American Musket, probably one of the 1808 Contract guns. I'll look later and see if the cartouche on the stock flat can narrow down a maker.

.577 Barnett enfield Bore need reline?

It doesn't have a bayonet lug, so I assume it's a shortened P1853 Rifle-Musket? Before doing anything to it I would make sure it doesn't have any desirable viewers markings on it.

    Lock ID

It a percussion conversion hammer from the Kingdom of Wurttenberg. Without having any other parts I can't tell you which model gun is was used on, since this style of hammer was used on several different types of muskets and carbines. But it would have been on something like the M1817/30 U/M...

    Help with musket id

It's Austrian, probably a Muster 1842 Musket. These were not produced as flintlocks, so this example is likely a percussion altered example that was sold out of service around 1870 and then converted to a flintlock in Belgium for sale in the African trade.

    Bought a model 1853.

It is not a British made Enfield, rather a copy produced somewhere in east Asia. What style of barrel bands does it have?
