    Parker Conicals Fall Down Barrel

Forgot about paper patching, and thanks for the file idea

    Parker Conicals Fall Down Barrel

That is what I'm doing, but bought the conicals so I would like to use them.

    Parker Conicals Fall Down Barrel

Really, I never thought of that.

    Parker Conicals Fall Down Barrel

I need some suggestions. I have my father's custom .54 percussion rifle and plan on deer hunting with it this year. It is firing .535 round balls with a patch beautifully. However, I would like to use the 535gr Parker conicals I have, but they just fall down the barrel. I made a cross-shaped...

    Traditional Hunts

In IL there is a ML season, but it is after the gun seasons and it is any kind of muzzleloader. Of course there is no "rifle" season in IL so I use my various muzzleloaders throughout any firearm season, only other option is shotgun in IL. I switch back and forth between in-line and...

Problem with flash channel plugging up

This is exactly what I am going to be doing today

Problem with flash channel plugging up

So you "never" swab until you are done shooting for the day and then do a full cleaning? I would think accuracy would be affected after so many shots and the barrel would need to have some kind of patch run through it?

Problem with flash channel plugging up

Thank you, it was my Dad's pride and joy, but he never fired it (unlike him to have a safe queen, only one he ever had to my knowledge), but I am determined to take a deer with it next season).

Problem with flash channel plugging up

Thanks to all of you for the great advice- I will do some more shooting after the weekend (too busy with a graduation party/military send-off for my son to do more testing today or tomorrow). I will report back once I have fired more rounds.

Problem with flash channel plugging up

Rifle would have been oiled, but we always store our rifles muzzle end down to prevent exactly what you are talking about in regard to oil running back into the breech area/action with modern rifles.

Problem with flash channel plugging up

This is the second time I have tried to post pics, hopefully they show up this time.

Problem with flash channel plugging up

Here are some pics that you guys requested- I don't know how much this will tell you. I didn't feel like getting my nipple wrench back out and taking off the nipple. I am 99% sure that what many of you stated is occurring: pushing the gunk down with my patch because my patch is too tight...

Problem with flash channel plugging up

And I will post a few pics as soon as I get a chance today.

Problem with flash channel plugging up

Personally, I love 777 over everything else (BP, Pyrodex, ect). I will make sure I use a shorter jag so that it extends beyond the junction/joint you are referring to.

Problem with flash channel plugging up

Good point on the spinning of the ramrod, never thought about that all these years, but totally makes sense.

Problem with flash channel plugging up

I tried with both a dry patch and a "semi-wet" patch and both caused the same problem.

Problem with flash channel plugging up

It appears that going all the way down to the breech is what is causing my problems with this rifle- I have always taken the patch all the way down the barrel to the breech on various muzzleloaders for years (in-lines, flintlocks, percussions) and this is the first time I have had this problem...

Problem with flash channel plugging up

So, would you suggest that I use a smaller patch and say a .50 jag instead of a .54, or even put a patch on a patch puller and try to clean the bore out? I did use a pipe cleaner to try and get the junk out of the flash channel, but the powder charge still wouldn't ignite without inserting some...

Problem with flash channel plugging up

Hello, Just joined the forum a few days ago and thought I might need to post this question. Have done some looking around on here but can't seem to find an answer that works. My dad recently gave me a Percussion muzzleloader that was hand made and he had never fired it. The gun maker fired...

    New to Forum

I have been shooting muzzleloaders for a number of years now and have used the forum here many times to look up info, but thought I would join now since my dad just gave me some of his "older" muzzleloaders and I might be posting a few questions. I am from North Central IL and love my...
