    Misfires ,What I"m doing wrong?

Crackstock, The complicated vent is due to the neccessity of igniting Pyrodex pellets from the rear one end of the pellet has a priming composite of some sort in it. The directions for the pellets are to drop the pellets in with that end first.

    Misfires ,What I"m doing wrong?

OK Here goes from the beginning. 1: Use your pan charger to dump a charge(or two) down the barrel. 2: Drop in your pellets. 3: Start your projectile (PRB, conical, or sabot.0 4: Use the ramrod to seat your bullet, and this is important(Sorry I didn't think of it before) DO NOT CRUSH YOUR...

    1/48 twist shoot round ball,conical,sabot

Try out different loads with each and try to find the most accurate in your gun. A 1:48 twist should be best with rounballs or conicals that are relatively short these are usually 250 grains and lower such as the PA conical from Hornady or the 245 grain Buffalo Ball-ette. I never used sabots...

    Misfires ,What I"m doing wrong?

Ok make sure your vent isn't plugged and try dumping a little bit of your priming powder down the barrel. I got my daughter a Traditions PA pellet Flintlock and it shoots fine with pyrodex pellets.

    Misfires ,What I"m doing wrong?

No don't use 4F as your main charge. If you want to go with BP and that is the most reliable choice for a flintlock refer to Rebel's suggestion for shooting, however 2F can be used as well, although most flintlock shooters using .50 cal or less, myself included, prefer 3F. However before you...

Muzzleloader Elk - Roundball or Conical?

It all comes down to which you are more comfortable using. If you are only going to get one shot at the trophy of a lifetime, in which barrel do you have more confidence? It's your gun, your hunt, and your decision. My only concern would be is a .54 cal. roundball adequate to the task, I think...

    PA Pellet Flintlock

Before anyone gets carried away with the criticism of the gun and my hunting techniques, skills, and ethics, the gun is a flintlock it has the same basic limitations as any other fliter except that it is capable of using pyrodex pellets and shooting the equivalent of 150 grains of powder. I...

    Harper's Ferry pistol powder charge

You're welcome, and I agree with Rat, in that DGW recommendations seem to be a good starting point for working up a load. The same catalog recommends 25 grains of 3F for your Walker Colt.

    Harper's Ferry pistol powder charge

The DGW catalog recommends 35 grains 2F with a .570 RB and a .015" thick patch for 1805 Harpers Ferry pistol. I hope that helps.

    You most exciting flinter hunt?

My most memorable flintlock hunt wasn't very exciting and I didn't even see a deer, but it happened during Pennsylvania's early muzzleloader season. It was the first day of the season and my 12 year old daughter was pretty excited about her first deer hunt. I had bought an inline muzzleloader...

    Hog Hunting

Sounds like some good advice, but I don't think the Peoples Republic of California will allow Idaho the option of carrying a handgun for a back-up; so try the buddy system or a tree stand.

    advatages to flintlock

I don't think Goex makes a black powder substitute. As far as I know, all Goex regardless of granulation is "real" black powder.

    PA Pellet Flintlock

That's exactly what I was thinking Livbucks. I bought this gun for my daughter to use so I do want to use pellets if they don't affect the ignition time. My reasoning is so that she can load the gun without my having to worry about her measuring the powder. Pyrodex makes both 50 and 30 grain...

    Black Powder brands/types??

I agree with you, roundball. As far as the 2F vs. 3F debate, use what works for you. I have seen three different recommendations from powder and/or muzzleloader manufacturers regarding powder granulations. First was 2F should be used in anything over .45 cal, second was that it should be used...

    T/C Pa Hunter Flintlock loads

I shoot 75 grains out of the PA hunter carbine and it was effective up to at least 80 yards. I use PA conicals from a 1:66 twist barrel (not the T/C, however), and they are accurate enough for deer at reasonable ranges but don't group as tightly as the round ball for me. Give them a try if...

Shooting Flintlocks from the oppossing side

I tried loose pyrodex powder in my flint just to see if it would work. I poured in about 30 grains of the pyrodex pistol powder and pushed a wonder wad in on top of it; because I didn't want to have to pull a ball if it didn't go off. It fired the pyrodex just fine, although I primed it with...
