    Where are Track's locks made?

From what I can glean, Trackofthewolf.com gets their barrels from GM, but does anyone know where the locks come from? Do they buy the castings and assemble them or are they Italian or what? Just curious.

Why not use a metal ramrod?

No, my ball/patch combo isn't too tight to ram with a wooden rod. I just find it easier to do so with the brass rod.

Why not use a metal ramrod?

I'm a young guy and I've always been interested in history and I've found that the best way to gain insight into history is to ask "why didn't people back then do XYZ?" Well then, basically my question is, why did people back then use hickory over iron or brass for ramrods? To save weight? Save...

Do I want a Pedersoli Bess?

Well I got a package from UPS that is as tall as I am. I got it literally at 1:15 and I had to be at work at 1:30 so there was no time! But I am home now and here's the first impressions: -it's almost as tall as I am and more slender so the ladies will be attracted to it before me. -the stock...

It's still 200 miles and 2 days away! :cursing:

Do I want a Pedersoli Bess?

Well I ordered a Pedersoli kit after all. Thanks for all the advice and replies! this forum is great. Does anyone know if the metal parts on the kit are polished or are sent as-cast?

    :shocked2: like where?!

Do I want a Pedersoli Bess?

I heard somewhere, not necessarily here, that the frizzens are soft or somehow not very good. I'm pretty sure this is false because I know Pedersoli makes good products, and a $1000 gun wouldn't have a soft frizzen. But, you know, I'm just making sure. Anyway, I don't really care about...

    New T/C flinter

I just received a used T/C flintlock rifle in .50 from a seller on gunbroker.com This is my first flintlock so I am not sure how much spark the flint should be throwing off. A lot of websites talk about a shower white-hot and yellow-hot sparks, but I can't seem to get more than a a few orange...

Can I make substitute powder work with a flintlock?

Well I may have solved my problem because I made some home made black powder...and it works! Well, it works in my percussion gun, at least. I don't even own a flintlock so I can't be certain that I could ignite it with sparks, but i'm pretty confident that I could. Looks like I don't have to...

Can I make substitute powder work with a flintlock?

Well I guess my next question is, where's the best place to order black powder from?

Can I make substitute powder work with a flintlock?

Let's say I have absolutely no access to real BP. This isn't neccessarily true, but let's just say. Could I shoot a flintlock under such circumstances? If not, is there anything I can do to pyrodex (or another substitute powder), either by adding some sort of chemical, or grinding it down, to...

New (to me) .56 smoothbore Renegade

Well I got it, and have gone out to shoot it twice. It's surprisingly accurate. I removed the rear sight and filed the front one down, because I want more of a shotgun/musket configuration. Even with no rifling and no rear sight, I can hit coke cans at 25 yards no problem. Call me surprised...

    1/8" thick enough for wads?

Are these wads thick enough for a .56/28 gauge smoothbore? I made them with a .60" wad cutter of my own (well, my dad's) invention. They have been soaked in parafin and olive oil, and they come out stiff but greasy, which is what I am looking for. But although they seem to be the right fit, I...

New (to me) .56 smoothbore Renegade

I may have started this thread pre-maturely, because the seller has been ignoring my e-mails all week :( I guess I'm just impatient, because he seems to have excellent feedback on gunbroker. Oh well. He hasn't actually charged my credit card so I guess I haven't lost anything.

New (to me) .56 smoothbore Renegade

So what would a period correct (say around the year 1800) shotgunner use in terms of shooting equipment? What would he use for carrying and measuring powder? What kind of wadding? I'd like to get all the info I can on what people back then used.

New (to me) .56 smoothbore Renegade

Yeah I've always wanted a 28 gauge but the ammo is more expensive than 12 gauge. Figure that out! So I'm glad my first ML shotgun is 28. I'm more concerned with good patterns than FPS or energy, so I don't plan on fooling around with 'magnum' loads any time soon, or ever.

New (to me) .56 smoothbore Renegade

No, no, you're right. I figured they would be too small, anyway. Is it reasonable to start shooting 3/4 oz loads because modern 28 gauge shotshells shoot that amount? Should I work up from smaller loads, or maybe even bigger?

New (to me) .56 smoothbore Renegade

Would a 28 gauge plastic shotgun wad work in this?

New (to me) .56 smoothbore Renegade

Oh I didn't want to give the impression that I am eager to junk the smooth barrel. In fact, I am all about SB shooting, and rifles don't interest me at the moment (don't ask me why. I'm weird.) If I had wanted a rifle, I would have just ordered a Lyman GPR for the same price. I bought this...
