    Kibler extra fancy question

Go slowly, but don’t worry. Any mistakes can be re-sanded. Aqua fortis is forgiving if you need to blend a new area with an existing area. It is more difficult to blend after an oil, varnish, poly, etc. is applied on top of Aqua fortis.

    Kibler extra fancy question

There are numerous you tube videos on finishing maple stocks. Whiskering involves wiping a damp cloth over the wood. Let it soak in for 30-60 seconds, then dry the area with a heat gun. This brings small wood fibers up. Sand the fuzzies off with 220 grit sandpaper, then repeat 3-4 times. After...

    Source for cherry longrifle stock?

Thank you, Gents. Both companies look interesting. From what I have read, I think 1-2 teaspoons of lye in a pint of water followed by blushing with a heat gun, will give me the best color. I am looking for a rich, medium dark color with a bit of red. Does anybody have other recommendations?

    Source for cherry longrifle stock?

I am thinking about building a Lancaster-style longrifle with a cherry stock this winter. Any suggestions on a source for the wood? I would prefer a stock with the barrel and ramrod already inlet, but a plank would also work if I can get nice grain. I have read through many of the discussions...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I took my 50 cal Lancaster and the chronograph to the range yesterday. I was pleased with the muzzle velocity using Schutzen FFFg. Results below are average of 3 shot groups using .495 round ball, .020 pillow ticking patch and Track's mink oil lube. 62 gr = 1460 fps 72 gr = 1579 fps 97 gr =...

"SWAMPED" BARRELS??? Intended or poor workmanship?

Both swamping and octagon to round are for weight reduction. Remember, the narrowest part of a swamped barrel is suspended ~3 feet in front of the shooter.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

After three attempts, I finally made some powder that ignites. If commercial powder becomes hard to come by, I have an alternative. And today I dry balled my rifle . So, I had the pleasure of disassembling the rifle and remove the breach plug because I also screwed up pulling the ball. It...

    Gold...Gold...Gold...that shiny stuff

I have Novak gold dot front sights on a couple 1911s. The gold is easily picked up in any light and does not tarnish.
