    Patch fabric

I usually take my micrometer to the thrift store. I can find already pre-washed ladies cotton drill pants for about a dollar. I also find alot of linen pants cheap. Linen makes great char cloth. Ohio Rusty ><>

    Handgun reloader meets leadball

I bet I shot thousands of powder puff loads of 38 special using a round ball. We would reprime the case with a primer, dump in a 22 LR case full of Unique powder. We used a soft lead .360 round ball as the case is .357 and it would be a tight fit. We used a common bench vise to press fit the...

Got #11 CCI caps in Walmart today

I was at the Logan Ohio Walmart yesterday and as always I check the sporting goods area. Lo and behold they had just put out percussion caps along with other muzzleloading supplies. There were two full peg hooks. I bought 11 tins and left probably 20 tins for other folks (or the scalpers). 4 of...

I actually found percussion caps at Wally World today

Finally !! The lady that works the sporting goods department knew I had been looking for them and she had just put them out on the peg hooks. I bought 11 packs and left maybe 15 to 20 packs for other folks. At least 4 of these packs I'll donate to our Sons of Liberty muzzleloading club to give...

Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

I see folks posting about all their nice guns. Personally, I would never disclose what I have and own over the internet. No one knows how many potential thieves are lurking to make you a target for a break in. As a former Police officer, I'm just passing on helpful advice as I had seen...

Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

I'm one of those that have never been a collector. I don't have any custom guns, tomahawks, shooting bags, knives, etc. Never ever had anything collectable stuff made by other makers. I always made my own stuff to use. I have a couple of rifles and a smoothbore and that is the extent of my...

    Wheel weight lead question

I only use wheelweights for unmentionable pistols. Should you need to pull your bullet with a bullet puller, forget it. The lead is too hard for the bullet puller screw to bite. Plan on spending a $200 gunsmith fee or more for a stupid mistake that a pure lead bullet would have solved the issue...

On the Cast Boolits site, there is a seller there named Epilatos in the Selling and Swappin thread that has an Ideal single cavity .490 RB mould and a Lyman .440 RB mould for sale for $25 each. These are steel moulds. Just passing this on if anyone needs this mould for their rifle. Ohio Rusty ><>

I am Interested in making muzzle loaders the old way. Need advice how to.

Contact Richard Sullivan at the Williamsburg gunsmith shop. He still makes everything by hand. Several years ago I attended a 3 day seminar he did on forging a gun barrel by hand. He also forges his own gun locks and hand casts all the brass furniture. He is an amazing wealth of knowledge. Ohio...

    Availability of Percussion Caps

Don't let that stop you. Take the caps up front to the self serve register. Scan one tin, they will card you to make sure you are of age, then scan the other, pay and leave. Ohio Rusty ><>

    Kibler Brown Bess?

I have little interest in a 75 or 80 caliber smoothbore. Too much lead to shoot down range and they have a terrible rainbow trajectory to be able to hit anything, if you ever hit anything. With the cost of powder these days, the 20 gauge would be more cost efficient both powder and lead wise. A...

    Poor man’s guns

Here is my flint poor boy rifle in 40 caliber. Simple grease slot, no butt plate, a piece of polished deer antler at the top of the comb to add strength to the wood there. Plain browned iron furniture with double set triggers. 39 inch browned barrel. Ohio Rusty ><>

    Kibler Brown Bess?

It would be great to have a Brown Bess in 20 gauge. He already has 20 gauge smoothbore barrels for his new smoothbore line. A more effective roundball with less lead to waste. Ohio Rusty ><>

    How Indian flintlocks are made

A floor like that is good. With all the sparks and forging, there is less to burn with a dirt floor. My Blacksmith shop has a dirt floor for that exact reason. I also use reclaimed metals to make things. With the price of steel so high, you need to think outside the box. Ohio Rusty ><>

Got #11 CCI caps in Walmart today

I checked the Wally World's in both Logan and Lancaster Ohio. Everyone bought them all the minute they showed up on the shelf. The employee at Lancaster said they won't be ordering any more. Unless you are there while they are hanging the caps on the peg hook, forget about getting any. You'll...

Favorite RB size for a .45

It depends on your barrel. The Wife's .45 requires a .445 RB with a .015 patch. The 1970's CVA caplock rifle takes a .440 RB and a 15 thou's patch. Ohio Rusty ><>
