Just bought a Pietta 1851 Navy in .36, what do I need to know?

#11 CCI and #10 Remingtons are the same size eh? Not from my experience they are not. And judging from this video. I think I'll continue to use caps that properly and tightly fit the nipples in my revolvers. I think a chain fire could come from either end of the cylinder. We could beat this...

Just bought a Pietta 1851 Navy in .36, what do I need to know?

You can try to pinch the cap a little to get it to hold on to the nipple a little better and you may get by that way. I've never liked the idea of doing that as I don't want to risk a chain fire (thats a whole other subject). As Snakebit said, get you a set of slix shot nipples and you can use...

Just bought a Pietta 1851 Navy in .36, what do I need to know?

I said aim at his belt buckle for the new guy with the new revolver. So his shots would at least be on paper. Some of them shoot really high. I have not modified the sights on my open tops I just use a different sight picture for them and they do just fine.

where can i buy used black powder revolvers?

I will add that buying from a forum like this one for the most part in my opinion is a better choice. No you can't see the gun in person, but the people selling here usually know someithing about muzzle loading. They know how it should be cleaned and how they should be cared for. And will post...

Just bought a Pietta 1851 Navy in .36, what do I need to know?

Take the revolver apart and thoroughly clean and relube it. The factory nipples are gonna take a #10 cap ( Remingtons fit the best on my piettas with stock nipples) . A .375 or .380 round ball will do just fine. Slix shot nipples are a very good upgrade and help to greatly reduce if not...

where can i buy used black powder revolvers?

At an online auction, your winning bid better be low enough to account for the buyers premium and the inflated shipping charges. I just bought a rifle at auction that was 21% buyer premium ( about normal) and 80 bucks shipping. I would stick to for sale sections in forums like this one. Alot...

    Kibler Fowler vs Trade Gun

Yes, Thank you for the information. That indeed explains things better and is easily understood. I'm still fairly new to this, so I go off of the information I gather here and elsewhere and it is all a learning experience for me. I hope you didn't consider my post degrading in any sorts. It was...

This simple idea was and still is genius.

That's a very interesting rifle. Its simplicity makes it even more interesting.

    Kibler Fowler vs Trade Gun

Jim with all due respect, better "quality" and a "better gun" how exactly? Because it it carved? Cut on a CNC machine? Is the Walnut or Maple better? Is a fowler aesthetically more pleasing? Sure, that is the case. But in this instance none of that is important to me and some others. I'm...

    Kibler Fowler vs Trade Gun

I'm not concerned with being able to complete a trade gun kit. I feel confident I can do it. At some point I gotta give it a go. These skills will die off if we don't continue to learn them and pass them on, rather than take the easy way out all the time. I can't argue with Jim's kits, they...

    Kibler Pistol?

I would like to see something that would have been around the same time period of the rifles he offers now. And as was said NOT a Kentucky.

    converting an unmentionable to muzzleloading

Why convert it? Just buy a pair of Adapters from gunadapters.com and muzzle load it when you want, and breech load it when you want. I have a few of those adapters that I use in my H&R Toppers. Great fun! No they are not traditional but very versatile.

    The powder ran out first...

Fine shooting SIr! I went on an invasive Pigeon (normal city park type) shoot one time ( modern shot gun). They were everywhere. Great fun. I was surprised at the end of the shoot that a grill was pulled out They taste just like mourning dove to me. Just more meat. So if things get bad, ya'll...

    How Indian flintlocks are made

(seriously) The manufacturing style isn't much different than the Khyber pass guns. Those videos always amaze me. Where there is a need and a will, there is a way. They prove that for sure.

    How Indian flintlocks are made

It was a Joke Dave. Some of ya'll have the sense of humor of a rock. This hobby is supposed to be FUN, can't we laugh and joke around, like guys do? Some of ya'll are where fun goes to die.

    Kibler Fowler vs Trade Gun

Thanks for the reply Jim. I was mainly concerned about the versatility of them. I was shopping around today. Kit prices for Trade guns are right there with the maple stock Kibler fowler. So there is no savings there.

The hand is probably broken. Taylors should fix you right up.
