    Mr. Brant Selb

I would not want to try to make a good living building muzzleloaders even if I had the skills. Too much involved for what people can or will pay. At the same time taking money and doing shoddy work isn’t right.

    Flintlock Rifle Flash Hole Placement

Don’t over fill the pan with powder and it should be fine. Also, putting the pan powder away from the touch hole may help. You are more likely to have problems with the small antichamber in the breech getting powder back to the touch hole than the holes actual position and that is a basic design...

New Traditions Deerhunter Flint showed up! Any advice?

The original poster asked for some suggestions. Here are several. First, make sure the barrel including the smaller patent breech area are clean and free of oil. If not they may tend to foul and cause misfires or flash in the pan. Next, if ignition is sporadic you may want to drill the touch...

Sharon Rifle kit or Thompson Center

Those T/C sights were available in the late 70s and early 80s and maybe later. They were used for some so called primitive shoots requiring non adjustable sights. I put a set on my TC Hawken around that time and still use them. Some early Renegades may have come with them.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Tim, don’t you hate it when those things happen.

    Mystery Pistol

I suspect you have a target pistol made up of various parts in the last 40-50 years. It is interesting and shows ingenuity.

    Finally Connected with a Flintlock!!!

I think you’re right, but many here are more meat hunters than horn hunters.

    Old caps

I have CVAs like the blue one and they are around 45 years old. They still work fine.

    Lead Sinkers

Don’t just shoot muzzleloaders, go fishing too.

    WITHDRAWN 50 Cal. Kilber Colonial

Not trying to kill a sale but I think you might take it as a challenge to correct the most obvious blemishes. That would be some work on the metal parts that need it and the badly stained areas of the stock. It would be a good learning experience and unless you really over did it improve the rifle.

    Mold fills

I use a Lyman casting Ladle and pour steadily till there is a puddle about the size of a dime on top of the mold. This seems to work well to fill molds. I have a Lyman electric pot but it also works when melting lead in a pot on my Coleman stove.

    Found real GOEX locally.

Maybe he won’t enjoy it so 10oz is enough. Of course I see a black powder order in his future.

    Kansas Folks

Oh BTW, I have way too much cast iron cookware for my needs but my daughter in Michigan is worse.

    Kansas Folks

Castironcrazy, I’m in Manhattan and also RSO at Fancy Creek occasionally. There are several Muzzleloading clubs in the area including Kaw Valley Muzzleloaders. They have a Facebook page. The Kansas Muzzleloading Association is having their annual meeting in Topeka at the Ramada Inn on Feb...

Anyone else chomping at the bit for the Kibler smoothbore?

Bigcountry, for black powder, your best bet is to take a road trip to Grafs & sons in Mexico, Missouri unless you want to order it and pay shipping and hazmat fees. I’d call ahead of time and see if they have what you need in stock. Of course, I’m assuming they do face to face sales.

    Leather Canteen

Native Americans often used buffalo bladders to carry water. I imagine it was common knowledge within the mountain man community. https://www.kshs.org/teachers/read_kansas/pdfs/m42card12.pdf Now all you have to do is find a bladder.

Cant figure out what cushion wad diameter i need

Do you know if it is choked? Mine is. Measure your bore the best you can if you have a caliper. Mine are full choke and measure around .670 at the muzzle. The barrels are marked 18.3 like yours. Below the chokes they are around .710 if I remember right. 13 gauge wads and cards work .

Cant figure out what cushion wad diameter i need

Looks to me like a Pedersoli. Probably takes 13 gauge.

    Harper’s ferry 1816 type 3 barrel markings

Might it be an assembly number?

    Weather

Too cold is somewhat relative. If you live in the northern tier of states 20 degrees is much different than for folks in the southern tier.
