The Kibler Ash SMR, or WKU Round Two

Thanks for sharing. I have a Fowler kit in order from cabin creek. Just waiting on colerain to start production on the barrel. It’s going to be stocked in ash. I figure it’s going to be like American chestnut soon. It’s pretty much wiped out in my area of Pa

    flintlock, lock tuning

I have a gun built by Brad it has a large siler lock and it tuned very well, super fast ignition. My dad has a TC renegade that Brad worked on his lock. He put in a new frizzen and tuned the springs and the rest of the lock. It now shoots almost as fast as my siler

    WooHoo! I second that...TVM

Like others have said, the best way to get used to it is shoot. And if TVM tuned the lock right, and you have a good flint you will not have to worry about flinching

    Cabin Creek Kit

I totally recomend anything from Cabincreek. I have a Colonial Va that Brad made for me and I really love the gun. It shoots prob better than I can shoot it. Brad Emig is one of the best gunmakers in the country with out a doubt. If you live close I highly recomend making a visit to his...

    Store bought'en vs. spit patches.

I use a spit patch when I am at a woods walk, paper shoot, or novelty shoots. When I am hunting I use mink oil from TOW it works very well esp with the cold temps we have here in the late season in PA

    L&R Locks?

from my exp they are better than TC, Lyman, etc. but not as good as a chambers. If you have a TC, call Cabincreek up. Brad will replace your frizzen with one of his and tune your lock for around 100 bucks. My dad had him fix up his TC lock and it works almost as fast as my large siler

    Lyman Deerstalker for beater gun?

I have the deerstalker, it shoots well and became my backup/beater after getting a custom gun. If I allready had customs and wanted to get a production beater it would be the lyman great plains rifle. it has a 1/66 twist and is available in 50 and 54 cals

    Which to buy?

I would probably go with the LCS gun just on the fact that you like the way it feels, the sights, etc. . . however like others have said the Chambers lock is a better lock than the L&R. Good luck with your choise and keep us posted

    TC & GPR different

the real difference with the 2 is that the GPR has a slower twist. The locks are OK, not a siler, but they can be turned to work better. My dad gave his lock off his renegade to brad at cabincreek. He put a new frizzen and tuned it up and it is almost as nice as my lg siler

    Custom vs Production

I have used a Lyman Deerstalker for a while and it did well, and shot well in woodswalks against others with custom or semi-custom guns. However last year around this time I ordered a semi-custom gun from Cabincreek. Yup it was a bunch of money, but you know what I really love that rifle...

    Lock RX by Cabin creek

I have a gun that Brad at Cabincreek made it has a chambers siler and he did one heck of a job tuning it. Also my dad took his lock from his TC renegade, he tuned it up and made him a real frizzen. Now his TC lock is almost as fast as my siler

    both eyes open

I personally shoot with one eye shut, and have shot a Lyman deerstalker for a few years before I got a reall nice custom gun. One thing that I learned with the custome gun is with a well tuned lock there is almost no delay and my thoughts are with the follow through and not with the flash so I...

    leather on the flint?

I use leather with the rough side towards the flint. I have talked to some guys that use both lead and the leather and make a sort of sandwich. I haven't tried that yet
