Buying a BP rifle on this site

They used to be. At least as far as handguns (of a certain ignition system ;) ) are concerned, they aren't any cheaper than dropping the gun off at my FFL to ship now. I used to use them all the time until their rates almost doubled.

Buying a BP rifle on this site

I know there are two other pages I haven't read yet, but I'm going to reply to this anyway. If the member can create his own label, there's NOTHING that should put up a read flag getting you a price for shipping at 7:30PM. You just plug in the numbers on the shipper's website. And as someone...

Buying a BP rifle on this site

THAT is a question I've often wondered myself. Many times a seller may also sell on another forum under the same username. Or even on Ebay. That helps when they do not have a lot of posts here. Also, have they recently sold something similar to a member with more than a low number of posts...

Ease and accuracy of shooting. 1851 Navy vs 1858 Remington. Thoughts?

Me? 8yds for me. My normal handgun distance. Especially shooting one handed. Although I don't think I could have done any better using two hands. So almost 20ft ;)

Ease and accuracy of shooting. 1851 Navy vs 1858 Remington. Thoughts?

I don't do as much C&B shooting as I should, so disclaimer aside... ;) But I like them both. Whether shooting Tuco's gun Or Angel Eyes' Maybe if I shot them more I'd have a favorite.

    Paper shot cups

    Do you tie both ends?

    Capper for revolver

Yeah, my fingers tend to fiddle too much getting a cap in position to seat on the nipple. Much less getting it out of the tin. It's an age thing ;)

    Capper for revolver

I like the TC snail capper. The straight capper I have (it says it's for #11 caps) I use on my shotgun, but I seem to lose caps with it. I've been meaning to try out the plastic star cappers I bought from Guns of the West, but haven't gotten around to it yet. They are supposed to work with 10's...

    Paper shot cups

Thanks. That's more in line with what I was asking. I already make BB cartridges using that video except using two pieces of string instead of one. I think the problem I had with shot cups is I was using a rectangular piece of paper and gluing the seam. I'll try using the BB template next time.

    Paper shot cups

So are you still using the full size BB paper cartridge template when just making a separate shot cup? I'm not following how that works... Unless you are folding the paper in all the way around where the ball would normally go. And then tearing off the tail, leaving that end of the shot cup...

    Paper shot cups

@Loyalist Dave , are you folding or twisting your shot cup paper on both ends? Or something different? Are you gluing the seam? How many layers or rolls of paper? Inquiring minds want to know :)

    Strengthening frizzen spring?

You've been here much longer than me, but I seem to have read somewhere that technically speaking a frizzen doesn't even need a spring to produce a good spark. If it's producing good sparks and not bouncing back into the flint I'd be hesitant to apply heat to it. Not unless I'm sure a...

    .589 Minies?

Thanks. I didn't know they could vary by that much. Not oversize. Glad I measured them.

    Using TOTW Mink Oil?

I use a pillow ticking strip when I use mink oil. I hold the fabric against the mink oil with two fingers and drag it across the surface with my other hand. So I guess that would be called prelubed. If I don't use the whole strip I fold it lube side in and put it in my bag or box.

    .589 Minies?

I ran into some Minie balls and some other conicals and they measured .589 using the calipers that were there. Kind of large for an 1861, aren't they? Mine shoots .575 if I recall. What gun might that have been used in? There were balls and about 100 tubes with premeasured charges in them. A...

If It's SOLD, Mark The Listing SOLD.

C'mon, John. That's a bit extreme. Don't you think? We're still working on including a price and a picture with your name and date. :p But yes. Big peeve of mine, too. I've anxiously clicked on a lot of threads only to find the item already sold.

$1,000 budget (set on stone): What should I recommend?

That's OK. His friend's budget has only been set ON stone, not engraved IN stone. So it could blow away and change at any minutes 😁
