my new John Buck ECW Matchlock

oldarmy: With my .62, I started at 65g FFg and went up in 5 grain increments. What kind of slowmatch are you using? I use hemp which burns a little faster, but also hotter than cotton. I was lucky to have a nice stash of the stuff from an old macrame that my Mom did in the 70's. I'm...

my new John Buck ECW Matchlock

Oldarmy: Nice Musket! On the mention of priming powder, historically, Matchlocks did use fine power for priming. I know from practical experience that fine powder ignites much more easily than coarse powder when using slowmatch. Good luck with your new baby! Slowmatch Forever...

    arquebus

Surrealpillow: Ugh, sorry to hear that. :( If I make a suggestion, I recommend John Buck if you have to go to a custom builder to get a similar arm. Mr. Buck can and has built such Matchlocks for similar price. :2 Good luck with your quest! Slowmatch Forever! Teleoceras

    arquebus

ChrisPer: Like Volatpluvia said, these were pretty much shoot at a massed crowd, then back off to reload. You aren't going to get sharpshooter type accuracy with these arms. Slowmatch Forever! Teleoceras

    arquebus

Surrealpillow: I own of the them (I call her Anna). My .62 is a nice Matchlock, but I wasn't crazy about the finish on the wood. After rubbing some linseed oil into the wood, she looked a lot better. As for shooting, Anna shoots a bit high and to the left, but has some pretty...

Will pyrites work in a flintlock?

Tinker2: Believe me, those three pieces of pyrite are treated like real gold to me! Far and away, the dollar type of pyrite made shooting Sparky enjoyable again. FYI, Leonard Day was asking me about pyrites a few months ago and I told him about the ones you sent me. I didn't know that...

    Late 1600's fowler lock style?

    Loyalist Wheel Lock Pistol

Volatpluvia: Hey, I like to keep all options open just in case. Now that I am able to shoot Sparky consistently with the right pyrite, I want to find a steady supply. Slowmatch Forever! Teleoceras

Trucker: Many thanks! How many shots have you been able to get per cube? Slowmatch Forever! Teleoceras

    Loyalist Wheel Lock Pistol

Gents: I second that request! The only good pieces of pyrite that I have are 3 from South Dakota. I'd love to get my hands on some more! Slowmatch Forever! Teleoceras

My new Leonard Day Wheellock PIX

AZLongrifle: Yep, Mr. Day is an ARTIST! I talked with him a few months ago when he had called me about if I had the pyrite issue solved with my Wheellock that he had rebuilt for me. He mentioned that he was building one at the moment. I'm guessing that is the one we talked about. Truly...
