What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Scraped and sanded the Fowler stock today. I tried Dave Person's method of using trans tint and alcohol. It definitely makes you work harder scraping all that off but you don't miss an inch!

Black Powder Groups In Northern Kentucky?

I'm in Covington KY. There aren't any groups in our area that I'm aware of. I do go to Friendship for several shoots each year. I shoot Muzzleloaders with a friend at our gun club KGAF, there's no official group there.

Welcome from No. KY. I'm glad you found your way back to the traditional side.

    How do you hold?

I assumed the round dots in @YampaValleyMountainMan 's sketch represent a front "Bead" sight, not the target, but he can clarify that. I can't imagine how you could bury the target in the rear sight notch with no visibility of the front sight in position "B". That's what lead me to the...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I worked on Fowler #2 today. Shaping the stock and scraping. Filing the wood and metal edges. It's cleaning up nicely. Soon I'll be finishing metal and drawing the carving.

    How do you hold?

I guess "A" level with the top of the rear sight but I don't like those rear sights that angle down. I like a flat rear sight so I can put the front sight level with the top of the rear sight. I hold centered and adjust what the "center" is based on distance and wind. This:

    Muzzleloader Magazine?

I like it for the articles about contemporary gun builders. There's always good articles about history as well.

    Cleaning Frontier Firearms

The OP's scenario is about an Indian fighting "Frontiersman" with a gun not most guys.

    Rust protection.

Don't over think it. Clean it, and oil it. That's what Daniel Boone would do ;)

    Cleaning Frontier Firearms

It's baffling that they could even shoot without an entire box of shooting supplies ;) They cleaned their weapons. Remember every able bodied man was required to be in the militia. They were trained to maintain their firelocks. Don't assume we know more than they did. They were out there...

    Cleaning my fowler?

Do you soak and drain the bbl before starting to run patches? If I just ran patches up and down really fast without firstly soaking and draining most of the sludge in my Fowler it would create a lot of suction. Here's how I clean my Chambers 20g Fowler: I do this at the range. I hate cleaning...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Spent the day at Friendship for the Fall National shoot. My son won 3rd place back in June for the NMLRA spring nationals Junior Woodswalk shoot. We picked up his medal yesterday. We did some shopping for buttplates and trigger guards for future builds. I also found a book I've been looking for...
