What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I bought some supplies to lube my maxi balls in bulk, to make some more moose snot, and also starting working on my pack for my elk hunt in Colorado in a month.

Got a little range time in…..this target is a total of ten shots….five high right, four at the bullseye, one…uh…flinch, jerk, didn’t squeeze…I dunno. All in all, I was happy!View attachment 87272

Went to the range and ran into an older fella shooting his CVA mountain rifle. First one I’ve ever seen in person. I liked it quite a bit and made sure to brag on it. He was having some issues, so I helped him sort it out. It was a good trip.

Does cleaning your muzzleloader shot yesterday and cleaned today count??

Ya, I know the drill. When I finish shooting at the range I liberally swab the bore with BP lube to keep the fouling soft. I've found I can easily postpone thorough cleaning a day or two with no repercussions. So my muzzleloading stuff done today was cleaning my SMR that was shot yesterday.

Spent the day at Friendship for the Fall National shoot. My son won 3rd place back in June for the NMLRA spring nationals Junior Woodswalk shoot. We picked up his medal yesterday. We did some shopping for buttplates and trigger guards for future builds. I also found a book I've been looking for about Longrifle Gunsmiths of Western PA. John Cory's (a cousin of mine) story and flintlock he built is in the book. We did some shooting with Loja Man who brought me one of the Patch Knives he made for me in trade for the Fowler I'm building for him. He did a fantastic job! My son shot some Trap and we both shot the silhouettes.

did the same thing as Hatchet Jack.
thought i was ready for final sanding but it just didn't look right.
scraped another cord of wood off and it is looking better.
after lunch a buddy showed up and wanted to go bear hunting. so we did. hunted and never found one. very little sign even. good thing we didn't see one. had we seen one we would have shot it.
then would have had to dress it out.
then skin the thing.
then pack it all out.
man i am tired just thinking about it. tomorrow we will go hunting again. so not shooting one today is a win!

Drilling the nipple holes 28bore barrels. I pondered at setting it up on the mill but then made a drill jig out of tubes and epoxy putty. . So it all lined up with hammers perfectly. Still waiting for epoxy putty to harden . I used hot glue to secure the tubes exactly to the hammer face , before adding epoxy putty Sunny day west London 12 am

Hey…. Does anyone know what’s become of @TDM ?

He was a regular contributor here on this thread, but his posts stopped on July 30th. I’m getting a little worried about him, and miss his postings.

I sent him a PM a few days ago and also sent him my email address in case a family member intercepted the notifications and could email me back with any news.

Just concerned…

Maybe he bought a tropical island and just dropped off the grid. I dunno…

I had a lovely friend from Alabama , white guy, helped me often. Hal, 48. Liked fishing too he used Ulfere on British military forums. Corresponded most days then three years ago nothing from him or his wife. I miss him so much.
