Is muzzleloader magazine a pretty good publication? I’m thinking about subscribing so I have something to read this winter. I have some of their old book of buckskinning publications which are pretty good, just curious if they’re still a worthy read today. Thanks anyone in advance for your input.

I will be renewing my subscription shortly. Yes, it's a great magazine. It's full of historical articles and there is often at least one DIY article in each issue. @Jason Gatliff has done a great job to improve the magazine since he acquired it. The content has increased, and the quality of the photographs has improved.

I like the magazine quite a lot. The historical articles are well detailed and referenced if you want to go further. The DIY is good with useful graphics and the hunting tales fire this old coot up.

yeah, it's a good mag, I'm glad we have it.

If you're interested in traditional muzzleloading and pre-Civil War history / living history I think you will enjoy it, but I am biased since I am the owner and publisher of the magazine - but I was also a subscriber for 18 years before I took it over 11 years ago.

We're a commercial publication but we're not some large corporation, everyone involved in the magazine is very actively involved in the hobby of muzzleloading / living history. It's a magazine, Of, By, and For enthusiasts.

YES! Lots of historical stuff, excellent illustrations, columns by Mike Nesbitt, do-it-your-self stuff, please subscribe! They are had to throw away so every year or so I give them to my local club house or muzzle range rather than re-cycling. High quality all 'round.

That should read; hard to throw away, not had.

It might be worth looking at the article indexes of back issues to see if it matches your interests. If your primary interests are in the areas of the history of the eastern part of the country, and events and organizations in the east, it is a fine publication. If your interests lie further west, you may find it a bit lacking.

Good point. It is mainly Eastern in it's coverage. Very much attuned to the F&I era, not much happenin' out West at that time!:)

Agreed, I find little of interest in it.
