    You call that a rifle.

Wayne.....I wish you well. I'm old , and injured from doing stuff I should have done in moderation. The gun I shoot most these days is a .40 cal. long rifle made from rusty old parts found in ashes of shed fire. You take it easy friend , and again , wish you well.

    You call that a rifle.

Just looking at the bore , I can almost feel the pain of recoil. OUCH! No doubt a three double header brandy per shot , caliber.

    tick treatment

I'll tell you about the most stupid , dumbest , university field tick study ever heard about. Since I live in Central Pa. , you'll have to guess which university performed it. The studywent like this.....1st.Stake off a 6 ft. square area in a woods. Count the number of live ticks in the...

    Suggestions for bag flap closure?

I sewed a PC of deer antler on the outside of the pouch flap , then a loop of leather thong under the bottom of the pouch out of the way , when not slipped over the deer antler to hold the pouch flap securely down. Keep it simple.

    tick treatment

First time I got lime disease , The tick was in my hair behind my ear. W/in a week , my jaw quit working and I had to become a ventriloquist to converse w/ the Dr. . He put me on antibiotics for 30 days and the problem went away. Didn't want to experience that BS again , so try to be...

    tick treatment

Bud........Another caviot about ticks. In the early 2000's , there were some research papers written on tick behaviors. One study claimed ticks were drawn to the brown color like Carhart coveralls and jackets. Stands to reason , because for years , my hunting buddy wore his work Carharts...

    DIY Bore Butter

In the early 1970's , there was a British black powder solvent called Young's . It was mixed with water and turned a whitish brown color , and worked great. It smelled like American WW2 gun cleaner called Cosmoline. Since the two , Young's and Cosmoline smelled and seemed the same , I mixed...

    tick treatment

Yrs. ago , I was miles back in the Pa. woods. I came up on a tiny table with ticks seated around it. They were doing shots of DEET , and bragging about how many humans they wanted to bite. Permethrin is the best tick defence. If you can't find any other source , we used to buy pure...

    Help Needed for Torn Patches

A friend brought me a new .58 cal. plains rifle with the worst crown I've ever seen on a production rifle. There was no way the rifle could have been loaded w/a patched r/b and expect any accuracy. The bore at the muzzle had a .060 " half moon of metal , at the edge of the bore where the crown...

    Jamming flintlock priming spout.

If a corroded , or priming plunger fouled w/ damp powder isn't working , carrying a spare to replace the fouled one will help until you can get to where the device can be cleaned. To help prevent gooy powder residue from fouling the primer's nozzle , keep the lock pan free of moisture common to...

    Piebald Doe

My first buck hunt , 12 yrs. old , was in an area closed to all hunting since 1920's. The area was closed as it was an airplane engine development site. Deer were more than plentiful , going in in the morning at 4 AM to sign in and get a hunting area , there were so many deer , we had to...

    Poor man’s guns

    T. Jefferson had a blacksmith shop on his Va. plantation that specialized at making all sorts of cut nails. Most every frontier blacksmith shop could make cut nails , but back in the day , perhaps the nearest blacksmith shop was 200 or more miles away. Most likely frontier era cut nails...
