    Newbie looking for first flintlock

I would choose a Pedersoli over a traditions, if you can afford it. . . IF you can afford a Kibler, then that's one that will never disappoint and always hold its value as a historically correct custom rifle . . .top of the line wood and parts, but quite expensive. But, there are snobs in the...

Maker of the standard 36 inch 54 caliber TVM?

    I have a TVM - (Matt Advance) . . . Late Lancaster kit from about 5 years ago . . . It's a RICE barrel. It's a very good barrel in my opinion.

    .32 out of a .40

Though not a .32 you might have better luck with a heavy or double patch and a .36 caliber ball. Just a thought.

A Black Powder Hunting Tale of Woe and Misery

I'm going to say something with the caveat that I am a newbie and have much to learn, but I have taken two deer with my .50 Lyman GPR . . . Wooden ramrods in my three ML's are mostly for decoration or perhaps emergency use. . .the smaller the caliber the more true this is. (I don't want an...

    Lets see some squirrel rifles

This TVM late Lancaster .32 w a rice barrel, was my first build a few years ago. . . My biggest issue is not shooting it enough (not easy where I live in suburbia.) . . it is more accurate than I am right now. . .when that changes, I'll hunt squirrels a little more often with it than I do.

Aging a Polished bright lock plate

    I've used French's Mustard.

SOLD REDUCED Very Fine Tennessee Style Flintlock .45 Rifle

Very nice rifle . . . don't often see a brass mounted TN or Southern rifle . . . very pretty. . . and great piece of maple.

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

I am going to add a perhaps useless comment . . . don't worry about sanding down your ramrod a lot . . . in my view the ramrod on a rifle (not so w a large caliber smoothbore) is that the ramrod is mostly for decoration. Hear me out . . . At a range, I always use a metal range rod, which is...

Wanting to get a smoothbore flintlock

If you want to hunt squirrels with a smoothbore a 62 caliber is just fine. . . this is one I took with my Chambers PA fowler and #6 shot.

    peening pin heads

Well . . . It's your gun . . . removing a pin only one way makes some sense to me . . . moreover, I think what you did looks pretty neat. Just my two cents.

    WITHDRAWN Lancaster smoothbore barn gun

A barn gun is like a poor boy . . . it's historically correct not to have a butt plate if made that way. This is a nice looking fowler.

    LH in a RH world...

TVM is good about offering left hand kits or builds . . . but there is the wait time for a built or in the white one. . . You may want to consider finding someone who has built a rifle . . . then if they will help . . . consider the Jim Chambers Left Hand PA fowler . . . it is not an overly...

My smoothbore build the next few months.

Nice looking parts . . . nice piece of walnut too !

Is this the worst inletting job you've ever seen?

Cheer up . .. . your internals look worse than your lock mortise or lock plate edges. I think your inlet can be fixed and won't look as bad as you think right now. Experts here will give you good advice.

SOLD Lyman Great Plains 54 cal.

That is the nicest stock I've ever seen on a Lyman GPR !!

    Black Squirrels

If you choose to shoot one, you should at least have it mounted, given its rarity.

    Pedersoli Flintlock kit

I may be too late for this older post . . . but I’d file and sand the groove away around the lock plates … take a look at an original or a good custom rifle like a Kibler or chambers and they won’t look like a round file was used around the lock and side plate … file the outer part flat into...

    Crockett Kit Tinkering

I've owned a Crocket so I know what they look like and the changes you've made are wonderful !!

    My first flintlock is completed

    Beautiful . . . that's one heck of a piece of maple.

    Citristrip and wood stocks…

Stripper is not as strong as it was years ago . . . I remember using a product called Zip Strip in the 80's and 90's and you could watch varnish and finish bubble up in seconds after it's application . . . burned your fingers too if you didn't use gloves . . . nothing I've used this century is...
